I never realized just how much time I spent setting up the tripod before. Granted not a long time, was getting pretty good at it, but now, push a button and it's done. We kept the dish on the bed, not a happy wife.

I was laughing other day - asked the wife if she could get by with a Lansce truck camper for those short trips to the high country lakes, thinking the kitchen doesn't have a lot of room to maneuver.

The first thought that came to mind for her was bringing that "divorce dish" back out of the basement of the stick house and using it again

We are back from our first trip with the Winegard on the roof, and it worked well (except in the trees!). The time savings compared to the tripod were welcome!. In the past I timed myself by checking the counter on the sat receiver, it took about 30 minutes to assemble and and aim the tripod (29 minutes to assemble, 1 minute to aim!).

I did set up the tripod once or twice in locations where we had no cell service (the tripod is for both internet and TV) but I suspect that I'll be ditching the tripod as cell service provides internet service in more locations.

Brad, you are a genius!!! I took down that LED light, reached up in the ceiling and there was the control cable. I then checked to see how much slack I had and it was only about 18" so there was no way I was going to make it back out to the roof and then to the dish. So, I ran a fish rod from the light hole out to the roof hole and pulled the cable from the dish into the kitchen where I then did my cut and splice.....Turned on the dish and worked perfectly! Thanks again for the idea/help.

Fantastic Tim! A good recovery and resolve!

PS - the Dish Solo Node also happens to fit up through the light hole, so you don't have to put it on the roof, if you ever decide to go with the Hopper-Joey.

Well my Trav'ler install today went hopelessly south. Worked out with the satellite installers that the dealer that is doing some other work for me uses to install the SK-1000 and after waiting 2 weeks for him to "order and receive" the dish he finally shows up. They agreed $1,800 installed, which is more than I thought I should pay but went with it because I thought it would be easy.

Well after no more than 2 minutes the install tech is like, well this won't work and that won't work and I can't to that etc etc. We found the data cable on the roof but it was too short so he immediately said, well I'm going to have to run another cable and I don't know what that will cost but will be at least $400.

When I said NFW he called his office and they changed to "well the equipment was $1,800 plus install". I said bye bye and take your equipment with....

A few back and forth with help@winegard.com a 10 minute call to their parts department and a $14 cable extender fixes the problem. (Part #CL-SK16 if anyone is interested, 10' extension cable)

Now have to get my hands on the SK-1000. Probably can't ship it to me before Monday when we leave but thinking might order and forward ship to Shipshewana Campground and install it during the rally. Have all the other parts in hand already.

Good call!

Also great tip on the extension. (that's actually a pun isn't it). I wasn't aware, so I ended up just cutting the end and splicing in the new control cable that came with the antenna, and tucking the splice into the ceiling. The coax were too short as well, and I used barrel connecters also down in the ceiling (blue type for satellite).

I got my SK-1000 Amazon.com on Prime, so I got it in a couple of days, but I don't see it today on Prime, only standard at $1,290. Camping World maybe? Maybe even Winegard direct?

So I recall seeing an image of a cover for the roof that has 3 ports for the cable, 2 coax, 1 data. Was that a dream or does it exist?

Lot cheaper at ppl motor homes and free shipping. Mine had two covers, one each for the coax, no cover or port for data.

That's a great price as well. Hope your install goes as well as mine did. Now that there is an extension cable for the data cable, should be even easier.

Amazon Prime used to carry the Dish for around $1150 with free shipping. They eventually ran out and apparently aren't stocking them anymore. With Amazon Prime you could have paid literally a few dollars and had next day delivery.

I know Amazon Prime sometimes puffs up the price, but it's nice get the product in 2 days. That's how my Reese Hitch and Travler came.

No data - but a control cable that provides power and control to the antenna from the control box. It should be taped to one of the coax under the roof in the ceiling. You have to unscrew the barrel plate and pull:

Yup, talked with Camping World yesterday here in Nashville and they would have had to order it. I think its best for me to just order it and have it drop shipped to Shipshewana.

In the mean time hope Oshkosh has reasonable WiFi and I'll do Dish Anywhere until the rally. I suspect their will be people at the rally able to help me .

Btw, LOVE AMAZON PRIME! Recently it's like christmas most days after UPS drops off. I am baffled though how they could have reported a operating loss in Q2 today (http://www.cnbc.com/id/101864659). Certainly not from my lack of shopping.
