Which ac is more efficient

We are staying in a park with only 30 amp service tonight. Since we can only run one ac unit, which unit will cool the best? The heat pump or the front ac unit?

My rear units (heat pump) is 15000 btu and the front one is 13,500. I have need able to run both on a 30amp but only if the power is really stable and the voltage doesn't drop off around noon time. I ran the frig on the inverter for 5 hrs during the heat of the day and didn't use any other power. No hot water , no 12volt converter to charge battery . when the power drops to 105 volts it would trip the 30A breaker.

keep the awnings out, shades pulled down and anything you can do to shade the sunny side of the rig will make a difference. Turn the AC on low fan if you run both , it helps shave a 1/2 amp off the total load. Turn the AC on at sunrise and leave it run set at 68*. by 2pm the temps inside would start to climb over 75* if its 90* and we where in the sun with only one unit running.

Turn on the living at first to cool a bit, then switch with the bedroom since you will be sleeping in there... that should not take too long to cool down

I use one of these when 50 amp service is not available. It is a "Y" adapter that uses the 120v outlet, as well as the 30amp outlet at the hookup to give you 50 amp service.

I have had mine for a few years now. It was made by ODOM Assemblies.rvplug 007.jpg

I know I did not buy it from Camping world. I can't remember where I purchased it. I attached another picture with the box.

For one of the 2 legs of the "Y" adapter, you do have to use a 30 amp to 120v adapter. But it works great.

By using this you have 30 amp on one leg & 20 amp on the other leg of your 50 amp service. Meaning rather than 50 amp on each leg totalling 100 amp you only have 50 amp combined so you still may or may not be able to run all available circuits as you would plugging into a 50 amp pedestal.

I have never seen one of these so I Google the company and found nothing. Googled that type of adapter and found one on Amazon for $24 That has 2 each 30 amp male legs and 1 50 amp female outlet. Pretty cool. Also found an adapter available through Home Depot that has 1 ea 30 amp male leg, 1 each 15/20 amp male legs and the 1 50 amp female outlet. Cost $50.

You may be correct, however, I personally have never experienced any issues.

Most that have such an adapter report that if the 20 amp duplex is a GFI that it will trip stopping any power from that leg.

The manual does mention there is a chance of that happening. However,
most of the RV sites typically, as well as my house outlet have a GFI outlet at the service box. With my adapter, I have not experienced any issue with that happening.

I suspect it matters how much of a load is being drawn. Are you running both TV's, the microwave, both AC units and/or heat pump and refrigerators all at the same time?

I am not an electrician and I may be wrong, but I don't think the 50 amp service is providing 50 amps per leg for a total of 100 amps. I believe they all are connected to a 50 amp circuit breaker. My home pedestal has a 50 amp, 30 amp and a 20 amp gfci outlet totaling 100 amps which is hooked to a 100 amp circuit breaker in my main breaker box. Any electricians on here that can clear this up?

This is correct , any power that leaves a GFI must return to the same GFI on the white wire . If it doesn't sense the exact same amount coming back It will turn off.

your 50 am breaker has two pole and the AC power on each leg is 180* apart ,if you where to look at the sine wave on a scope. Your voltage would be 240 volt from the red and black and the red to the white wire is 120v and black to white would be 120v. 98% of the RV's on the market would only need a 120v service however this doesn't make for a balanced electrical system so they spilt up the load . Some load on the black and white and some load on the red and white . So you can look at it from a stand point of total amp would be 100 amps but at that point you would need a white wire double the size of the red and black because of how much neutral current it had to return to the transformer again not a balanced electrical system.

So back to the dog bone Y adapters , With using two 30 amp plugs at 120V they are combining the white wires and making one of the plugs the black wire on our 50amp plugs and one wire the red of the 50 amp plug. The national electric code doesn't recognize these RV style adapter and they should be used with caution because if you plug them in live you could get shocked. They do work and I have made a few myself But this is best left to a professional and as always used at your own risk.
