Wheel bearing

It was time to repack my wheel bearings so I remove the tire took the hub off and removed the bearings they still had a good amount of grease on them. While cleaning the hub I notice the outer bearing race would spin inside the hub. I checked the bearings they where still in good shape. So I took the hub to the local parts store they checked it and said I would have to replace the hub.

Electric or disc brakes?

Kodiak hubs have had some out of spec problems with the race surface.

These are electric brakes. Should I try to replacing the bearing race?

The race is cheap, I would try that first, but make sure it fits tight.

Once I make sure the race is the correct size, I put the race in the freezer and my hub in the oven at 300 for about two hours. This usually makes put the race in a lot easier. Otherwise you need a press and I don't have room for one on the RW.

I think RW should that as an option full shop. LOL

I can see my wife now - comes home from work, opens the oven and say's "what's for dinner honey!" and inside are 4 brake drums. I'll say "rich in iron honey, and some cold steel for desert in the freezer!" She already chewed me out for bending the plastic drain pipe with heat over the stove, she said marshmellows would be better if I was that hungry

I pulled all four hubs off, all of the outer bearing races spin inside the hub. I am going to call Lippert Monday morning and ask if these outer bearing races are suppose to spin.

I sell disc brake hubs for trailers and I can tell you fore sure, the race is not designed to spin.

The bearing spins and the race hold still. If that race spun too much, you may have to replace the hub.

We took ours in for some work and the rear wheel on the door side had a place where some grease ran down on the wheel, they said the rear O-ring seal was leaking. When they pulled the wheel it has oil bath bearings with no oil but packed with grease. They called RW and they told them replace the seal clean out all the grease and replace it with oil on all the axles. Figure that?

I didn't realize that Redwood offered an oil bath.

Mine have the screw on oil bath caps on the rotors, but they are just grease packed.

Another mystery - why not install hub as was intended or don't Redwoods assembellers have a clue?

All Kodiak Disc hubs use an oil bath cap but greased bearings. They use the same cap on the oil bath hubs. Titan does the same. Not sure what type of cap Dexter uses.

Ya I was thinking that - it didn't look like they forgot it was supposed to be oil, it just looked like they use the same cap. Mine are the Kodiak

What is really weird is they told Puller F350 to change it to oil. Puller, you might try Redwood direct to see if that communication actually happened.

I was standing there when they made the call. I don't know what they are going to do if they muffed it, but I don't have a lot of time and patients with them when they do not know what thy have or doing.

I guess it may just be my ignorance, but is it just as simple as cleaning the grease and adding oil? Do you have disk or drum?

so if yours need oil, guess mine were supposed to as well, or visa versa. Keep me posted if you don't mind.
