What the heck is this?

Guys, wife insisted I swap the bathroom light switch and the fan switch so the light switch was the closest to the door. During this, I found this cable taped up in the wall behind the switch, any idea what this is for?

Looks like a network cable.

It is an communication cable for a replacement and upgrade bath fan. Remove the shroud for your bath fan and the other end should be there too. Not sure which models are available now that use that type of cable but our ceiling fan over the kitchen uses the same cable. Uses a better controller/switch for open and close and fan speeds etc.

network cable for communication, between roof vent to switch!
its used so you can have a remote and switch at the same time.

My wall control modules for each of our three MaxxAir Vent Fans are connected between the control and fan by a similar data connector.
