Water smell - Water filter

I wanted those of you who read my question about water treatment to know that the chlorine seems to have worked, but now we cannot find the same water filter that was in our RV at any RV dealer or Camper World. Those of you who have a 2013 36 RL can you help? The element in the water heater looked like it was half eaten away when we took that out and a new one has been ordered. Thanks for your help and I hope this one starts a new thread...I tried anyway!

Hi John and Eileen!
We just purchased a new filter cartridge at the RV Parts store where we bought our RV. Though the filter was new in our coach, it was only a carbon filter which only removes odors and taste. Doesn't actually take out the really harmful stuff. We got one that takes out the cysts and critters and RUST. I wish I had the name of it... not very helpful I guess. I would try Amazon.com first. It was similar to this one: http://www.amazon.com/Camco-40621-Pr...lter+cartridge

I never did find the factory filter again - but there are tons out there. Just remember the 5 micron and look for the ones with the highest flow. I'm not sure those are actually 10", I thought they were 9-3/4" You might check that out. I changed filter systems before I ever installed another filter so I'm just not sure. My new one takes 9-3/4".

My anode rod didn't last 1 season either. I just put in this magnesium yesterday:

I have a 31SL, when I picked it up it had no filter because it was still winterized. It appears to be a standard Camco filter. The filter I put in was an Aquapure AP110 which is a 10" filter. It fits and works fine. The filter to replace the OEM should be a Camco EVO filter also 10". Both filters are sold at camping world or amazon. Both come in different filtering capabilities.

Thank you for all your replies. We will check out the filters mentioned. We have a kinetico at home and wish they had the same system for the RV.

This is the filter that came with our system:

http://www.amazon.com/Pentek-UDS-10E.../dp/B0014C5D78

It is bacteriostatic and filters to 5 micron.

You can also purchase them at Wal-Mart, Lowe's, Home Depot. I buy the Culligan brand at Wally World both carbon & sediment & they work just fine & a lot cheaper than rv stores.

Looks sexy, but for that price I can buy 6 (2 pack for $9-12) at Wal-Mart & just change more often.

I agree....I have the same system in my house and have thought about putting one in the RV. I think it would be a pain when it came to winterizing the unit. When I finally cash out of my business and go full time, I wont have to worry about winterizing and then I'll get creative.

no filter in water filter

Reading on the forum we decided that maybe we should check our water filter and see if it needed changed yet since we have been living in our RW for 2 months now. Well, found out that there was no filter in it. I guess we were supposed to know that it did not have a filter in it and we needed to put one in. It would have been nice if someone at the dealership would have mentioned this to us when we picked up our RW. Live and learn!

we love where the filter is located - my husband has to empty the storage trunk and climb all the way to the back to change our filter! talk about an "engineering marvel" to quote another member. we've asked about putting in an access door from the outside box where the water connection is but have been told only small panel doors may be available...we will wait and see - hope they changed this on the new models!!!! we sent photos and asked about correcting this -

Ya I think that is only on the FL models. Ours isn't too bad to get to.

Bad enough that I added a second filter outside the coach. I use the outside filter to catch all the crud and let the interior one do the real filtering. Change the outside one when it gets dirty, the inside one maybe once a year.

The location of the water filter was discussed at great length at the Rally and was one of the top issues on Ken's survey. Rest assured RW know about the issue.

Similar to Chuck we use an inline filter and also a softener, so only have to unload the basement about once per year to change the internal one. The inline filter we change about ev 3 months.
