Water Pump

We replaced our 3 gpm water pump with a 4 gmp pump and now showers are great.

But, is it ok to run the pump (just for taking a shower) while we're hooked up to city water? I didn't know if it would create too much pressure.

When hooked up to city water I doubt the pump will even come on, it works off pressure, if pressure drops pump comes on. If by chance it did come on the answer is "NO" it won't make too much pressure.

You can run the pump while on city water. We did that a lot when the CG water supply was too low or dropped during the day. The only thing you have to remember is the pump is going to draw from your tank, not your city water connect.

Agreed. Whenever we arrive at a new location, I fill the fresh tank to about 2/3 because we've had more than one occasion when we woke up in the morning only to find the park working on the water system and there was no pressure. It's always comforting to know you have your own supply if needed.
Thanks for your reply.

That would be a good thing if the pump works. Afer finding that we were out of water last week my husband has been trying to figure out why we were out of water when our monitor showed that we were approx 1/3 full. Well come to find out our monitors are one issue, our water pump is another. We found that we still had approx 35 gal of water in the tank but our pump wouldn't pump it out. Steve drained and measured how much was still in the tank. Then he filled it up again and measured how much went in before it started coming out of the overflow. When I called our dealer this morning I was told that for the warranty to cover the repair or replace our water pump on our 2 month old RW our dealer would need to verify that our pump isn't working. To do that they will fill our fresh water tank to capacity and if it pumps, it's working. The fact that it won't pump when we still have 35 gallons left doesn't matter .. if it pumps when full it works. The other thing is that both the brochure and the printout specs on our 38GK state that our fresh water tank is supposed to hold 104 gallons. I know the newer models hold less. That point was used as a sales pitch for buying our RW when we did. Anyone else have this experience? Any input is appreciated.

NewRW Owner the dealer has a good point, if your pump works when the tank is full then it works. I'd say you have a different issue to have fixed under warranty: the fact that you can't use all of your available water supply. Probably because the pickup hose is too short. But if the dealer refuses to accept the repair then I would bring a bucket (5 or 10 gallons), have the dealer fill the fresh water tank to capacity then count the buckets of water (thus the amount of water available) and if it's less than the advertised amount, tell him the wrong size tank was installed and you want it fixed.

Thanks for your input. Steve says the hose is at least 6 ft long. The fact that the specs for our specific vin number has our fresh water tank at 104 gal when it holds less than 80 gal and because the pump stops working after approx 35 gal used we have way less that what was advertised. Your suggestion is on point. So glad we were able to get our hands on the printout that identifies everything that we're supposed to have.
