I soon discovered that the filter was barely stabilized as it was only connected to the framing with 1 screw. I decided to remove the wall, reinforce the filter and then cut a much larger hole and replace the existing door with a door twice the size. Wow, what a difference, now I can actually replace the cartridge!!
GREAT idea

Haven't put the filter in mine yet, because it still has ANTIFREEZE! Someday it will be spring in Colorado

Good point about the water spill. There really is no way its coming out through that hole without spilling.

I found my wife's little cleaning bucket. With a little push through the hole it was a donation to the cause. She wasn’t happy about it but it works great to catch the water when changing the filter. But Im going to swap the factory one out for a new filter with a bypass on it. And I like the idea of a larger door. Too bad there wasn’t a way in from the other side.

The only problem I had with making the door larger was finding carpet to match the black carpet already on the wall. I got tired of looking for it so I went to Lowe's and purchased a gray indoor/outdoor carpet for the door only. It actually looks nice and makes the door easily seen. I then put a slide latch on the outside of the door so I wouldn't have to worry about the door opening up while traveling. I also had some problems with the heater venting to the bathroom coming loose so I had to screw the metal plate up to the underflooring and then retape it with aluminum tape. Hopefully resolved that problem. Another perk of making the door larger is that now it is easy for me to see all my plumbing and heating.

I always carry a compressor with a hose adapter for winterizing. I wonder if I could blow down the filter far enough to remove it without make a mess.

I carry a collapsible vinyl bucket that my wife bought from "LL Bean". I use it for changing the water filter and it's handy for washing the trailer while up on a ladder. It folds flat when not in use so it's easy to store

Dave,

I understand how you could get the collapsible bucket in there, but when your done how do you get it out with water in it?

PS - I have one of those and quickly learned it has to hang or it doesn't work. I set it on the bed rail of the truck once and it collapsed pouring all the soapy water down my front. Have you had better success?

I use a "little Giant" ladder when I wash the rig and I simply hang the bucket on the knob of the ladder. I've used it on the ground and haven't any problems.
