Washer and dryer question

Well thru the transition from this one to our next the question comes up. We currently have whirlpool washer and dryer side by side and the wife loves them but question is have factory put washer and dryer in unit during build which I believe would be splendid unit or do they have options on this or do I have it transferred from other trailer to new one which I don't want to do because I simply don't want to relive doors , walls, trim being messed up from dealer doing this. Who has what in there units and is splendid w/d worth the price and so on

I have the Splendide Ariston side by side, which came in my RW, and love them, so far.

Got a 2001 model Splendide and 2 2005 models, no problems. Might be a better one out there, never had to look.

We have the splendide combo vented unit. I have no complaints. We didn't want to give up all the extra space with a side by side setup so we just went with the combo unit.

It's very nice not having to track down and use laundry facilities in the parks, or the showers.

We've had our Splendide Aristons since 2007 (used to be stacked, now side by side). 8 winterizations - still work great!

I did break the cold water valve trying to install in the Redwood, and the valve was pretty pricey from Splendide and PPL.

The only issue I have had with my Slendide is during the wreck two years ago the selector knob on the washer got broke. However once I contacted them they sent me a new knob and everything is working great. I think the washer does a good job, but the dryer being 110 instead of 220 take a little longer to dry.

We just had the Aristons installed in our Redwood. We had the Splendide combo unit before (transferred from our older RV), but we gave up on it as it failed about a month into each winter's southern sojourn (4 winters), that was the second one we had, the first one burned up electrically and was replaced under warranty.Unless the unit has been re-designed lately, the issue is with the narrow rubber "S" duct (that clogs) inside the unit that vents the dryer to the outside vent connection.

The capacity of the Ariston pair is greater than the combo unit as well. I suspect that for day to day use the pair is a better choice.

We have a 36RE, we are installing a whirlpool side by side unit, however the unit does not have the dryer vent installed from the factory. I wonder if there is anyone who has any type of templates or diagrams as to the location for the vent. I am pretty sure that it can be done without any great difficulty. I know that it will be cut thru the off door side bedroom slide out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know if this will help, but the way I did mine is as follows. My dryer had a metal collar for the dryer hose that stuck out past the back of dryer.
We went to a stationery supply store and got a piece of foam board for posters. Taped the foam board to the back wall, positioned the dryer where it needed to be and then pushed the dryer back firmly against the back wall. The collar left an imprint on the foam board and I simply found the center of the imprint and started the 4" holesaw pilot on the center. Once I had a starter hole I took the foam board down, positioned Tracy on the outside and told her to tell me as soon as the pilot bit came through. At that point, go outside, cover the area where the hole will be with masking tape, and then drill the rest of the hole from the outside.

Pretty clever Vaughan. What a good strategy when installing aftermarket.

I was wondering how to do this, but then I chickened out and had the factory install them. Glad I did because the dryer vent went through one of the stripes on the paintjob and was painted in the process.

I've been researching the combo washer-dryer vent less units and I think I have narrowed it down to either the Splendide 7100XC ( http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...platinum/37360 ) or the Dometic Combo ( http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...er-dryer/75215 ).

Any recommendations would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Jack

I used a 7100 XC in a fancy Las Vegas hotel - and it sucked. Big ball of wrinkles. I have the vented Ariston in our Redwood and they do great.

I would recommend vented unless you are totally opposed to it.

My only concern is having to cut a hole in the side of the RV. Probably not a concern, but I'm usually overly cautious.

It can make your posterior pucker a bit, but plan it well and get a good 4" hole saw with a pilot bit. Mine was too shallow so I started inside, then went outside to finish. Came out fine.

It's my third one - all drilled within a week of being brand new. I save the pucks and use them for coasters

I had the 7100xc in another RV, and you are right about the wrinkles. They are almost impossible to iron out.

Thanks for the inputs. Looks like the vented configuration is the way to go.

Jack - see the post I put in the washer and dryer thread about install using poster board. Made the pucker factor a whole lot less. If you need clarification, PM me .
