TV antenna

Has anyone switched out their over the air antenna with a better digital 360 degree or something similar that will mount to the existing wingard mount. I would prefer an antenna that you did not have to turn directional. Anyone have any suggestions?

At Camping World I saw the clip-on, wing type that is supposed to provide better reception but nothing that would completely replace the extension arm. Interested in seeing the responses.

on all the forums I visit, most say the raised and rotating wineguard is the best...

on the rare occasion we use the off air antenna and are in the REAL boonies, we typically don't need to rotate it...
then we use a tablet app called antenna or station finder that tells you which way the stations are....

If you don't have the sensar IV, you should upgrade. The add is less than $50. They also have a new Rayzar that looks like a fly swatter, but I haven't heard anything on them.

They all rotate though.

Any Omnidirectional antenna (one you don't have to rotate) will not give you as good of signal as one you rotate. If you always camp near a major city that has multiple stations, or better yet between two major cities an omnidirectional would work. You just have to remember, the further away for the transmitters the less signal you'll get.
In the old days (prior to digital) you could live with a weak snowy signal for the short term, but with digital you either have picture or you don't.

Just updated to the Rayzar. About five mins on the roof to swap it out. Where I am located I face one city with the other behind. I went from 8 channels to 23. Biggest thing was stations were coming in at 53% or less and some dropouts. Same channels are now coming in at 80+. I re-used the pins and clip from the old antenna.

This is the Razar Air antenna? Maybe a silly question but since it has more surface area than the traditional "boom" antenna, does a dirty surface inhibit reception?

Haven't had it on there long enough to get dirty. The surface is slick, not sure how much will stick to it. The antenna is very light.

We got that one for our off air antenna when direct goes out at the house...
we are in the dfw area and have not been overly impressed with it...

I will say though, it is mounted behind the big screen on our fireplace somewhat in the center of the house, but so far it's just passable for us (YRMV )

jb...are you talking about the Razar that attaches to a wall or window? The Razar Air is designed to take advantage of an unobstructed signal path. Your results may vary because the unit is effected by walls and such? I don't know, just speculating. In addition, I have absolutely no experience with either so what does that tell you?!

The new Rayzar from Winegard actually replaces the factory Sensar antenna on the roof of the Redwood, like Skip's

If you are really good at driving the crank, you can clear the campsite of flies before going outside!

PS - also comes in black, for those of aesthetic consistency!

Oh wow! That's cool. I am anxious to hear how others like it. I expect THAT antenna would be very unforgiving if you forgot to crank it down and drove down the freeway ;-)

But if you have someone ride in the RW, it could be used as an Air Brake!

A little dirt on the surface won't degrade the antenna's signal reception unless there are inches of dirt on the surface. In that case you will be more worried about how the RV structure is holding up under the weight of a mud slide. I state this as a former Air Force tactical communications technician.

We just had an antenna installed that rotates and is only approx 8" high, "jack" brand, and we receive between 12 and 21 stations dependent on our location
