Sofa Sleeper

We want to buy a new sofa sleeper for our Redwood 38GK the maximum depth from the wall can only be 36". (Has to miss the slides) The front door is only 28" so we need one that the back will remove to fit through the door. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have googled and looked at hundreds that won't fit. Thanks Jim

How high are the doors, could it be put in standing on it's end and then rotating? It was my understanding from the factory that all the furniture fit through the door.

It may work that way. The door height is 75" and the couches are 85 to 88" so that may work. Thanks

You might have temporarily remove a window to create a large enough opening for the sofa sleeper. Pretty sure a residential refrigerator won't fit through the entry door opening. Sofa and refers are usually in place before the slide outs are secured. Which would involve removing the Valance and the trim around the window. Don't break the heavy window either.

Thanks, that could be an option. Ours is a RW38GK and the interior around the window is wood and looks like this could be a problem removing the window.

Is there a reason you want a sofa sleeper? We always end up with one from the factory and hate it. They are just not comfortable. We always found that if we just purchase a nice blow up mattress and have it available for guests it makes sleeping for them a lot more comfortable and a lot less expensive. Just food for thought.

Agree with R&M...
our previous 5er had a NICE sofa sleeper that was an air mattress,
but we opted for a regular sofa in the 38gk for a couple of reasons...
previous 'regular' sofa sleepers were not comfortable,
and we didn't want guests to feel TOO comfortable !

what's that saying...
Guests, like fish begin to smell after 3 days

We needed a sleeper sofa when we bought our 2014 38RE. It had a regular sofa so the dealer took it out then charged us $1800 for one which was shipped from the RW factory. It's the absolute worst ever!!!!! Not even my grandchildren can sleep on it much less an adult. Wish we had gone with the blow up!!

WOW....I've had several people sleep on mine without an issue. Some even returned for a couple extra nights. We've got the one that came with our trailer with the memory foam mattress.

We went with the regular sofa this time, because everyone we had to stay just preferred an air mattress on the floor in front of the couch.

Ours definitely doesn't have a memory foam mattress! Very thin, cheap mattress.

Ours came with the regular sofa with the pull out drawer
The dealer gave us an air matress that is built for a sofa. I believe from redwwood. You take off the cushions and it is designed to sit where the cushions are for the 1st 2 1/2 ft and then on the floor for the other 5 ft. It takes up 2 ft less of floor space when set up.stores in drawer when not in use.
Unfortunately very comfortable so guests Don want to leave

We smiled when we ordered our RL with only sleeping accomodations for two people (us). Then we started feeling guilty as we shared our good fortune with our kids. Ended up calling Redwood and adding the sleeper option.

We have same factory sleeper as Dave. No complaints yet - since we always cook bacon first thing...

We added a 3" memory foam topper to out sleeper mattress. Tried a 4" first but couldn't close it so we switched to the 3" which works wonderfully. We've had several guestsand all say how comfortable the bed is.

One possible option is to look at custom built sofa sleeper options. You can search on the internet for custom built furniture companies. We had a custom chase lounge built as a replacement for the original RW sofa with drawer.

Residential fridges will fit thru the front door. Ours fit, just barely, but it did fit.

When I toured the factory, I was told that all the furniture in the Redwoods fit through the door. I don't remember seeing any furniture in the trailers until the very end.

Homeguy, did you convert your fridge to the residential fridge? If so, was it complicated? I hate the Norcold fridge. I think the rv fridges are dangerous and way too overpriced. I would like to take out the 12 cu ft Norcold and put in a 2-door residential.

You can easily take the doors off most residential fridges to get them thru the door... ones with ice and water dispenser on the door are a little more work.

Was not difficult at all. Took a couple of hours to remove the old fridge and all the wood. When Home Depot came with the new one, it slipped right into place. The doors did not need to be removed, the did wait to install the handles until it was in place.
