Slide out supports

How many of you use slide out supports and are they really necessary?

Have never used them. I would be worried that the leveling jacks would slip and the would put to much pressure on the slide rails and cause them to bend. There have been stories of waking up and the front jacks have dropped. Only stabilizer jacks I have ever added were to the back by the hitch just to take out some of the shake when parked for along period of time.

I think in the early days of slide outs or as called by some Tip Outs, supports were common. I think present day setups are better engineered and stronger and no longer required. Now if you are setting on blocks under the frame, I suppose you could add some additional support to the slides without any worry.

Never used them due to same issues mentioned above, I also got rid of my king pin stabilizer, didn't think would do much good with the Tri Glide.

I seem to remember reading somewhere in all our brochures that it was not recommended to use supports. The slideouts are designed to hold the weight. What scares me is that the entire slideout is being held up by 1bolton the passive ram and 1 welded support on the active ram. Break a bolt or break a weld and down the slideout goes!

Never used slide supports for reasons as stated by others. IMO, just something else to set up, take down, and then find a place to store. I think the slides are sturdy enough as built.

I agree, no slide supports, if a tire goes down or the landing gear sinks in soft ground, the slide supports will damage the slide.

Well that answered all of my questions. I saw 1 RV here in the park that had some and I just started wondering.

Interesting dynamic here. There was always a concern with slide supports that if a tire went flat it could do damage. Now, with the leveling system, I don't think a flat tire would do anything, however a loss of hydraulic fluid could cause equal consequence if using slide supports.
