Has anyone ever replaced the dining slide transfer gear. What kind of a job is it?

If you are referring to the spur gears on the rack and pinion hydraulic actuation system The job is fairly straightforward and I believe it is documented in some Lippert literature. You will need a hydraulic jack and some wooden blocks to offload some of the weight of the slide. You will also need a helper. The job takes about 2 to 4 hours. I replaced both spur gears on the kitchen side slide because a couple of teeth broke off of both gears. When replacing the gears, be sure to closely examine the rack and remove any broken gear teeth that have become wedged in the rack.

Lippert changed the design of the gears and rack because the early units used gears with teeth that were too thin. I believe the earlier units like mine used gears that had 18 teeth and newer units have gears with 15 teeth allowing for more metal in each tooth. Be sure to get the correct gear for yours.

I also replaced the gear also on my 3841FL. This isn't a difficult job for a mechanical person who is a DiY. Be certain to order the correct spur gear since there are two sizes. You will need the hydraulic jack, 30 bucks at Harbor Freight and some wood blocks. Because the teeth may have skipped on the rack when you replace the gear be certain to align the two racks by counting the teeth on the racks to be certain you are engaging them at the same point. Just take you time, make sure you have the tools and be careful

Hey Roger just wondering if you tackled the gear issue and how it went? One of my kitchen slide gears has lost about 5 teeth which caused the slide to be get out of adjustment. I was thinking of doing it myself as it does seem pretty straight forward. How did it go for you?

Refer to answer 2 in this thread. Very important to check for any missing spur gear teeth that are lodged in the rack teeth. I had several spur teeth that were wedged in the rack teeth and I had to drive them out with a hammer and chisel.

I did both gear assemblies on our Living/Dining Slide this past Winter. I ordered the complete Gear Assembly not knowing what was all involved. Once completed I ordered two of just the Heavy Duty Spur Gears and rebuilt the old assemblies I took off, so now have two heavy duty spares.
Wasn't too hard of a job, just take your time.

It Went pretty easy. I had to measure each side of the slide so when it closed it was square to the body when it was closed
