Shower drain

I've tried to search for this, but the keyboard in the search window won't stay up. ... Anyway, I've got a 2014 38Fl. Has the neo angle shower and after using it daily for the last couple months it has decided that it doesn't want to drain. Now after a shower it has several inches of water, it slowly drains. Did get some hair out of it but that doesn't appear to be the problem. Looking in the drain with a light it looks like some type of white thin, flimsy rubber is blocking it. Unable to take the screen off, appears to be one piece. Anyone seen this or can explain. Called Redwood, stated the shower just has a p trap...?

I had the same issue, it turned out to be the screen (looks like a thimbal) which does come out in my 36FB.

We also had slow draining and most of the time it was hair buildup just below the top screen. It does come out with a small flat blade screwdriver. Just pry it up easy and it pops out. Under that it looks like an X which is how the drain gets tightened and that seems to be a problem on most. It's just too small but RV's can use it for some reason. If it's not that you may have to run a snake through the pipe and probably in the trap.

I'm thinking of cutting that X away and deal with the drain in the future if need be.

It looks like the drain piping has a thin rubber liner at the 90 ' bend. When I took the toilet plunger to it, caused it to fold back in on itself. Took the discharge from a shop vac and blew it back. It's drain now, still a bit slow but better.

Hopefully your tank is empty or empty enough to use the shower. Only one time did ours have standing water in the shower base and I knew it was time to dump.
Not sure about on your particular model of RW, but some use a Hepvo drain mechanism instead of the normal p-trap. We have one behind our spice rack for the kitchen drain. Ours is mounted vertically. They can be used horizontally or vertically. Must be removed before running a drain snake or similar down the drain or damage will happen. Have heard about shaving cream and toothpaste making this type of drain stick closed. Not sure about bar types of soaps either. We were always told to use liquid type body washes and such in the shower, as supposedly the bar type soaps build up more on the sides of the grey tanks and mess with the signals from the tank sensors.

Hepvo traps aren't cheap either. $22- $25 or so versus $2 for a p-trap. They can make it easier to plumb in some cases where there isn't the height room for normal plumbing configuration. The correct orientation for installation is to have the 'ribs' on the fitting to be on the bottom when installed horizontally. Position doesn't matter when mounted vertically. What small amount remains in the 'Bladder' material holds the material closed so there is no odor from the tanks.

This might be what is attached to your shower drain. Unless you can get behind the basement wall to see what is in there you might not know.

Once you get it fixed, go to a Dollar Store (or similar) and buy yourself a set of drain screens. We use them in all our drains to catch hair, crumbs, or anything else that might otherwise go down the drain. They just set in the drain and easy to remove hair after each shower.
Another possibility is the Hepvo trap may have turned it's self inside out, has happened twice so far on our Vanities.

I had the same problem with my 2014 38FL, was always standing in water ankle deep when taking a shower and since I use the shower 365 days a year it was a pain letting the water slowly drain all the time.
The "White Thin Plastic" in the drain finally started coming apart, so I reached down in there with a long nosed needle nose pliers and pulled out as much of the plastic as I could.
Now the shower drains flows absolutely great with no water backup.
Not sure if I messed up pulling the white plastic out but it sure has worked great for me so far.

By removing that white plastic (actually part of the Hepvo trap), you now have nothing to prevent/limit odors in the Gray Tank for entering the Bath area.

That is what I thought but which Grey Tank does the shower drain into, the one the washing machine goes into, the one the Bathroom Lavatory goes into or the one the kitchen sink goes into ?

According to the drawing I have for the 38FL, the Shower and the Bathroom Lavatory share the 1st Gray Tank, the Kitchen Sink and Washing Machine share the 2nd Gray Tank. (But who knows if my unit is actually built to the drawing )

So far I have not had any odor issues in the shower.

Home Depot sells a can of pressurized air that has a citrus smell when discharged. You push down over the drain to release a shot that clears hair and other guck...
Its in the plumbing dept right next to the plungers and snakes.

So does the Hepvo Trap replace a P-trap? Why?

It can, because it can be used in tight spaces where a P trap wouldn't have the necessary installation clearances.
