Shore Power Plug

Hi, now to the next problem. My power plug in the back of the RV keeps disconnecting from power. I have to take the plug apart on the end of the cable that hooks to the RV and use a needle nose pliers to squeeze the two clips close together so when the plug is inserted into the one on the RV it makes contact. The clips are weak and after one of two times twisting the plug into the socket they have to be pressed together again. I looked on Amazon and found another plug Marinco 6364CRN Marine 3-Pole 4-Wire Electrical Connector (50-Amp, 125/250-Volt, Female). I have read that people have taken their RV to the dealer and had the connector and plug replaced, what did they replace them with? I hate to buy another plug just to discover it has the same problem and have wasted $50. Can someone please let me know what was used to replace these cheap connectors. I even read somewhere they replaced them with a square one, so how did they put a square connector in the round hole in the shell on the back of the RV? Saving up for tires, also would love to fix this problem, tired of losing power, it always happens when it's raining, or middle of the night, lol. Thanks all.

Not sure I understand the question. If you're asking about replacing that 50 amp receptical then go ahead, sounds like you've taking apart so replacing shouldn't require a dealer to keep it for a month. As far what brand of plug, that would be up to you, any quality, Marinco, Camco, plug would be better than taking yours apart all the time.

Yes it's the 50 Amp Shore Power connector on the cable you plug into power to feed the RV. The one I have has weak connectors. When you look at the male connector attached to the back of the RV it has three stabs sticking out inside that the female connector on the cable connects to. On the end of the cable is the female plug that has three sets of connectors that slide over the male connector as you twist the plug into the one on the RV. Those female connectors are weak and spread apart too far to make good connection on the male stabs as you twist the plug on. It is apparent they had trouble with these and the dealers replaced them with a better connector. That is the information I want, what is the brand and part number for the new connector/connectors that were used to replace these weak ones that causes loss of electricity to the RV.

Not sure of the model number but Marinco is the manufacturer. I've had good luck with Marinco, I actually had a power problem yesterday. I have a Marinco cable that's a 50 to 30 amp conversion cable with a 25 ft cord. The 30 amp breaker at the pedestal tripped and I went through the exercise of figuring out why. It turned out the male plug (the one that plugs into the pedestal) had a short between black and ground caused by the heat melting the insulation. It's a plug that I replaced a few years ago, these 30 amp plugs take a beating probably due to resistance at the pedestal end and lots of amp draw.

When I opened up the 50 amp female plug on the other end it was in pristine condition.

I would look online and order a new marinco male receptacle and female plug and replace asap. If the connection gets loose it will heat up and melt. Camping world rv shops should also have them

One of the best things you can do, is to add the locking ring assembly. That way once you're pluged in you tighten the lock ring and it can't come out.

I bought one of these 90 degree adapters that doesn't put strain on the rv receptacle pins from Amazon and am really glad I did. Highly recommend them

I have the same 90 degree adaptor, works great.
I had a Camco 90 degree adaptor before, costs less than the Marinco unit but cheaply made and I had problems with it.

Camco RV 55562 Park Power, Adapter, 50M/50F, Powergrip, Locking

$44.69
This is what I bought, it made it easier to have extension cords as now they only need the male/female ends, the only marine adapter in on the 90 degree.

On my 31SL, the ladder is located right next to the plug so I just run the electric through the bottom rung of the ladder to take any stress off the connection. What I would really like to see Redwood do, is re-locate the plug to the middle drivers side of the fifth wheel. Not all park electric is located at the rear of the site. I had one at a state park that was located at the front. Just barely had enough cord to connect. I now carry an extension with me. If Redwood truly wants to save, they could change the location without changing quality.

I believe the new ones with the electric cord reel are located on drivers side right behind the kitchen slideout

So, is that standard an all the new Redwoods? I thought the electric reel was an option. I'll have to check that out, thanks.

Same with ours, street side rear corner, but I also carry two 50 amp extensons, one in the rear storage the other in the TV tool box.

Update to my Shore Power problem. I went on Amazon and ordered a Conntek 50 Amp 125/250 Volt Marine Shore Bare Cord 4 Wires Locking Female Connector. It arrived today Prime shipping and I took it apart to look at the connectors inside this one as was very pleased to find it was built strong and I don't see the connectors spreading apart like the weak ones on my cable. If yours is losing power at the plug you might look into replacing it with one of these. I have been an electrician for years and I can tell you this plug wasn't built cheap.
