shock kit installation

I have been tossing around the addition of a shock kit to my 38RL... It looks like I decided to go with the Lippert version , it has pretty good reviews on the RV.net forum , not to mention , I can get it locally for $210.00 complete.. I think that they may be fine along with the SRE4000

My question is that I need to use self tappers to mount the top clamps to the side of the frame... Looking at the drawings that I was able to get for the 36RL , It looks like ALL the tanks are well in front of the axles.... AM I safe to assume that they are the same for the 38RL ??

Not looking to drill into the side of a tank

I just ran some wiring all the way down the belly, and its pretty easy to check up in there with your fingers before you drill. That belly stuff just lifts up.

I just took several screws out and ran my hand up under it to make sure there was room. I'm trying to relocate the sewer storage tube.

Just ordered the Joy Rider shock kit since I figured might as well do all at once.Looks like one of the better ones I could find. I also have the Mor Ryde SE 4000 kit and Timken bearings waiting. Have to see what my brakes look like after 6,000 miles. Weather is getting warmer so have to get on this soon.

Perhaps I will wait till you get yours installed before deciding on mine... The Lippert kit looks enticing at $210.00 complete.. Not sure which way I will go?

Where did you end up ordering from?

I looked at that one also but decided that I know what a good shock costs and thought that was a little to low of a price for a good one so I took a chance on the others and hope it's worth it.
Got them online at Tweetys.

$209.00 per axle , free shipping... I saw that... I am curious to see if you need different bottom mounts like posted earlier.... I hate getting into something and not being able to finish....

Talked with a rep on the phone and said they can be mounted at a 15 degree angle.
I'll let you know for sure once I get them on in a few weeks.

Why were the extension brackets required?

I have decided on the JoyRider system... when you installed yours , did you need new U-bolts ? Or were the stock ones long enough ? I thought that I read somewhere thea the stock U-bolts were too short ??

Stock u bolts work fine and if you look at the picture of my install I needed the brackets to get the shocks at te correct angle maybe you won't need them if you guys want I can go down under and measure the distance the brackets mount from the center spring support.

At one time, I had always heard that U-bolts need to be tossed and replaced whenever that kind of work is done, as they should only be torqued once. I'm no expert, just recall hearing that.

I'm in a big load of hurt then as I've torqued mine every time I've packed the bearings, maybe not a good idea, but they haven't fell apart yet.
