On our RL it is located up the ladder and to the right rear of the roof. It is not a plate per se, it is a three inch round coax connector. You have cut through the caulking and unscrew it to pull up the coax's and the control cable.Edited by: Adamsvr

I just got up on the roof. I didn't see a plate. I did see two coax cables with white caps. I'll call tomorrow because I didn't see anyway to power the antenna. Adamsvr are you saying the control cable is the power cord ? I don't mind taking a razor knife and opening the roof a little around those cables if that's what I have to do.

That was all I could see in the inventory unit at the dealer. However I think he said it was taped to one of the cables. Maybe its under all that gunk.

Is the other end wired into your living room or bedroom? That would be a sure sign there is a cable. I think somebody said it was actually pulled to the bedroom (which is probably easier to avoid the slide).Edited by: atom ant

I'm going to look in the bedroom. There's cable's in the cabinet but I didn't really look at them. I'll figure it though, like I did with the surround system that was hooked up wrong

In our new 2013 36RE, the control cable for the Winegard Traveler control box is in the bedroom cabinet to the right of the BR TV.

Seems that it would have been in the rear entertainment center, but I assume they had a reason to go with the front bedroom--possibly to avoid the slides or some other sensible--to them--reason.

I installed the Winegard SK-3005 DTV HD dish last April when my RL was new. Other than hunting for the Sat end of the control cable, the install was routine and worked on the 1st shot. If you search my posts, I wrote up a couple oftips on the install.

You are right about the control cable. One end is in the bedroom cabinet, the other end is taped to the cables going to the roof. You have to remove the sealer, remove the bulkhead screws and pull the RG6 up about a foot till you find it. Yes, the control cable is also the power source.

I mounted my dish between the two A/Cs, so the control cable was too short. Luckily, Winegard also provides one in yourdish kit, so I had one to cut/splice/solder during the install.

Next hardest part is tracing where the cables go from the roof to the entertainment center, bedroom, etc. There was only (1) RG6 to the entertainment center, but my DTV HR24 HD DVR required two. I installed DTV SWM8 hubon the roof which lets you run the whole system on one wire after connecting the dish to the hub. (see my previous posts). You also want to remove splitters if you find them going tounneeded locations (like the basement and SAT-IN at the convenience center). I bought a $24 ohm meter to trace them down. In our 31SL the control cable is inside the cabinet behind the TV in bedroom. You have to remove the TV take the four screws out of the square piece of paneling that covers a hole in the lower right hand side of the cabinet. Put your arm up in the space and find the cable. It has a square male plug on the end of the cable.

I found the cable when I was running a HDMI from the TV to a Blue-Ray player in the left side of the cabinet. I have not installed a dish yet but hope to this spring.

I would assume the other end of the cable is up under the coax plate on the roof.

I would be very careful removing the coax plate from the roof to not damage the roof membrane. Do not use sharp objects.

Did anybody use the winegard SKA-008 mounting plate for "thin roofs" when installing their Trav'ler?

I was thinking of it,but Winegard said it wasn't needed. How would they know?? I decided to start without it - as I wanted to minimize the number of holes/screws through the membrane. I washed the RL's roof in the Fall and all was well, so I'd say its not needed.

Don't forget to triple seal everything. I usedDICOR self-leveling roof cement from local RV store.

I purchased the mounting plate and when Lazydays installed the satellite they stated it was not needed. We have been using the coach for a year and have had no problems with the installation, or operation of the wingard satellite

Sounds cool - did you use the separate small plate for the roller then?

How is the curvature on the roof? Are you going to go dead center or off to the side a bit? I notice they have a pretty small tolerance for a gap, I assume because it would pull the screws out of the roof if you walked by the antenna.Edited by: atom ant

Got the chance to look at the roof and didn't realize there was an attic vent there between the ACs

Is there enough space between the vent and rear AC for the Travler?

Brad, On my RL, the vent is closer to therear A/C and there is still enough space.

The dish mounts off center and at a angle I would not mount it anywhere but where Redwood said to put it that's where the cables are

?? I didn't know Redwood offered to say where it goes. All I get from them is they don't install them.

Why at the angle? Is that because of clearance to the AC? I can see where the cables come up from the roof.Edited by: atom ant
