Rock Chips

I remember reading somewhere on here that they had the bed liner material sprayed on the front of the RW to to help with the chips in the paint. Does anyone have a picture they could post? Would like to see how it looks since I'm thinking about doing it.

Steve

Char and Steve, I would be interested in this also as I have a lot of chips on the front of mine.

My dealer told me that the best way to solve the rock chip problem is to install the clear coat stuff that comes on a roll and all you do it put it on like wall paper. It is the same stuff that they put on the front of motor homes. Just a thought.

Are you referring to the clear bra type material? Bryce

I don't know if that is what it is called but the dealer showed it to me because they do install it. It looks like clear coat when it is installed it sticks to the paint . it goes on like window film. once it is on you hardly notice it because it takes on the color of the paint.

My Cargo trailer has aluminum diamondplate on the lower front portion for durability. Sure would be nice if something like that were installed on our Redwoods to make them more resistant to stone chip damage.

If you contact a Line-X dealer or Rhino liner that can spray it on in a color match.

Hi Steve...If the weather holds up, I'll get some pics in the morning for you. The dealer did a pretty good job of paint matching. We are getting re-sprayed later this month as we did the Dempster Hwy last summer.(1000 miles of gravel road) Our mud flaps did not stop all of it. I'm sure glad we had it there!

It is a 3M CLEAR BRA. it is a plastic film that is applied. Most shops who do window tinting also do it. They use a heat gun while installing and it will take almost any shape. We had it applied to the front of our E350 and after 4 years it still looks great and has saved a few good dings.

Mine has a texture sprayed on the front before it was painted, so it is not a smooth finish. I don't think the 3M film will apply to that, nor do I think it would look very good after it was.

Rhino Liner is probably the best answer. I personally would rather have the rock chips than a piece of dock plate up there.

When I get the opportunity, I'm doing the LineX, just difficult to leave it somewhere when you're fulltimers. LineX has a premium/ultra something like that which stays glossy & can be color matched, the last time I priced it it was $400+/- to do up to where the textured paint stops, but that was a couple years ago. In the past the LineX cures harder due to more hardener than Rhino or any of the other brands. I agree with Brad, NO diamond plate!!

Mine also has the textured lower front.. It looks and feels like the Rhino lining colored matched.. I know it's not, but believe that it will be difficult to line with anything on top... I'll let it alone for now.
