Maybe a dumb question, but new to rving and not sure how fridge works in transit. residential fridge in 2021 3401, do i need inverter on when traveling. Batteries will charge from truck so just making sure we know how to keep fridge working so food doesn't spoil.
Make sure inverter is on. Keep in mind that the Truck will trickle charge the batteries but will not keep them fully charged. Best to start every day with your battery bank fully charged. Of course this will also depend on type of batteries and how big your battery bank is. We had 6 volt batteries in our bank and could easily go 24 hours on the battery with limited use of trailer when on the road. With stock bank of two 12 volts we could not make it that long. Running fridge only when on the road we could make it all day. But put out the slides a few times at stops and battery juice went down quickly.
I have a residential fridge and RV full time. The fridge runs on a large inverter 24/7 even when on shore power. The shore power, truck plugged in, and/or solar will charge the batteries. Recommend a good solar panel and two good deep charge RV/Marine batteries and you shouldn't have any trouble 😉

There should be a transfer switch for the inverter to bypass when connected to shore power. The inverter shouldn't be powering the fridge 24/7, but should be left on so as soon as shore power is disconnected it will then power the fridge.

I installed a Samsung fridge in my 2013 36RE, run a 2000 watt inverter with auto transfer. I also upgraded to six 6Volt 230 Amp Hr golf cart battries. The Fridge runs at most 8 hours a day, (usages wise). My truck will charge the battries while drivivg. I have 2 200 amp alt's which helps. After 8 to 10 hrs on thr road alls well. Golf cart battries are pure deep cycle, have no starting power at all, last longer, but never discharge over 50% or thgey will start to loose thier properties. Best bang for the buck.
