38RE 2017. Our main filter is inside the front basement. There is a small door to open and all water pipe connections and filter are in there. I have to remove 50 percent of the basement items to get to mine, crawl inside, open the little door, get a flashlight, turn and add filter with the special tool they gave you. Don’t forget to remove the filter and the fridge filter before you winterize.

it is a 3901 MB

There is a compartment where all the TV, water, sewer etc. connections are located... and inside there is a "blue" canister that you take off with the special tool they provided. However, when I opened the canister, there was nothin in in - no filter... So, I put a Pentair 10", 5micron carbon filter in the canister - it seemed to fit and seat perfectly... I was just confused when I opened the blue canister and "nothing" was there??? It was very easy and accessible and It all seems to be working now... Thanks so much for the reply

The coach ships with no filter in it since if it's winterized you don't want one in there. Dealer "should have" put a filter in during prep.
As you found, it takes a standard 10". I carry three different types of filters.

Go to the top of the page and click on FORUM tab. Choose one of the categories such as "General RV Questions". There will be a "New Thread" on the left to the page.

I changed the water filter in mine first time in 2015, found the filter was not secured properly, so I removed the screws they used drilled and put bolts to hold the hanger for the filter canister and believe me changing it was an ordeal.

I removed the panel cut a two foot square door, got some plywood and auto carpet with 3M spray glue and a piano hinge and two slide latches.
Used the old door frame they had and another piece of wood I had laying around to make a frame backing so when door closes it has a stop so everything on outside looks flush when closed, and have plenty of room to reach anything behind panel.
Before making this door, I went to Allegiance for warranty work and they had to work on fresh water pump, I remember the mechanic struggling through that little door to work on pump, they decided i had to have the pump replaced and had to order one along with some other items needed.

I had to go back in a about three weeks to get the parts ordered replaced and when the tech saw the door I had made, he told me how glad he was as he was dreading changing the pump.

I removed the entire water filter assembly and then replaced it with one that attaches at the water Spigot. Easier to change the filter and makes it easer to winterize the unit in the winter. I did cut the door bigger in the storage do that access is better at the same time.

We just bought a 2015 Redwood 38GK 5th wheel. We are wanting to change the water filter but from what I'm reading there is a special tool to use. We have no idea what this special tool is? Can anyone share a picture or tell us what we need? Thank you in advance!

It's called a Water Filter Wrench and there are several sizes. I believe the OEM Blue Filter Housing that RW used need the smaller size.
If you were anywhere in the Western NY (Rochester/Buffalo) area I have several extras.
Just checked and you should be able to find one at the bigger Home Supply Stores, like Lowes and Home Depot.

Thank you for your reply, we are in Fort Myers, FL. At least now I can tell my husband what we need. There's several RV supply stores in the area so maybe we'll get lucky.

If he doesn't find one, we'll be on Sanibel for the last two weeks of October before moving over to Sebring for the Winter.

That is so nice of you but we won't be back in Fort Myers now until after Christmas. Thank you for the offer though.

If it is a standard whole house filter( ours is on the new redwood) you can probably unscrew it without a wrench. Depends on how tight it was put on. Otherwise our bigger Walmarts actually carry them with their water filter areas in hardware(not rv section). If you have a picture, might be able to give you a better suggestion. Thanks and Happy Camping.

water filter wrench

This is what a filter wrench typically looks like. If you have an oil filter wrench that will also work in most cases... again if it is a whole house filter cartridge style.

Some of the larger box stores carry more sizes of water filters, while house filters and wrenches. Lowes possibly, our Menards does locally. Home Depot and others could be a source.
