Replacement steps

We replaced the factory steps with Morryde steps. I then removed the factory steps and installed a storage box. I had a friend make a trim for the large gaps. I temporarily painted the trim.. I will have it repainted with a factory color later. I like it. What say you? We use the box for chocks, pads and a pull strap.

I honestly haven't come to a conclusion about how I feel towards those new Morryde steps. They appear to be rather bulky but I've also read very good reviews. One thing for sure, you're reuse of the space is an excellent idea. There simply wasn't enough thought put into the efficient use of under carriage space for the FL models.

Nice! How do you like the new steps?

I do not understand why the manufactures stay with such dangerous fold out types. When these new ones are down they are as solid as home stairs. It’s a little awkward entering due to door swing and location of the hand rail. Other than that we love them.

I never minded our Redwood 3 step, but I will admit I wondered what kept me from chopping my fingers off folding them sometimes. Many near misses if I wasn't paying attention.

From the reviews I've read, opinions seem to be split about 50/50 on the MorRyde steps. Personally I'm okay with the 4 step fold outs on our 31SL.

I like the RW ones. Never had any problems with them and any problems going up or down

replacement steps

MorRyde Stepabove is advertised as the next generation for RV steps, but I hope they are only sold as an option. They are certainly solid and adjustable, however; they are also limited, especially if you have a fixed landing at your site or a narrow corridor in a tight RV site. If you can't swing it down, then it obstructs the entrance, which will require that you remove it and then store it as well. It's marketed to fit certain people with diminished gate or balance skills, but I still opt for the 4 aluminum fold down steps that come with the Redwood. I find the 4 step aluminum fold-down steps to be exceptionally lightweight, solid, stable and much more versatile.

Woodman1, couldn't agree more, so that's the reason I modified our Mor/ryde steps so I can remove them.
We love them for the Winter while we're parked in the warmth, but for Summer travel they can be a PITA, so we use the OEM RW steps then, leaving our Mor/ryde steps in Florida.

So the box size depends on your step width. The depth can be no more than 12” or it will stick out too far. If you look on line for the box size you want it comes right up. Buy the best quality you can find, that means not from China. Remember you are limited to a width and depth. Look and see how the steps are supported and use the same/similar mount.

I just saw the May 2018 Trailer Life mag, on page 10 a MORryde is now selling a storage box for removed stairs.

This is a pretty cool thing you have done here. I made sure this idea was put in front of the research and development team.

I think RW is more focused on "Bling" today and less on practical storage areas probably because they're more labor intensive. I prefer the aluminum folding steps as they tend to provide more options. For those who need more stability, the MorRyde steps are a nice option and then the storage box is a good idea, however; it's still small. One forgets about RW eliminating the rear access storage, or eliminating the shelving they had in the basement, or eliminating some of the tall cabinets they had on certain floor plans. Those all had great useful storage features with very efficient use of dead space. So, if you want to lobby RW for anything, let's get those storage features back as they're a lot more useful and everyone can benefit.

Wondering if you have a photo from the inside? Did you have to notch the wood trim around the door?

Thanks!

I have to admit I was fearful of the "Step Above steps" at first. However after almost two years of use and multiply camp sites. I have only stopped at one roadside area that I had to move to put them down. And as for being placed in to narrow of a campsite?? If it is that tight.... I ain't staying there. I love the stability they offer and feel that any disadvantages are far out weighed but the advantages. Just my two cents.
