regular maintenance schedule

Good afternoon all,

I'm fairly new to the RV community and i am trying to put together a maintenance schedule (weekly, monthly, semi-annual, annual.) Such as refilling batteries, conditioning the rubber, washing/treating the roof, etc. does anybody have a go by that they use? I full time near the coast so I'm always keeping an eye out for rust and taking care of it ASAP. Has anybody had very frequent rust issues, and what are your treatments for it?

1) – Weekly - Spray hydraulic levelers (exposed ram’s) with silicone spray. I do this since its setup at home w/ all 6 jacks down.Heard you need to do it more often near the beach. I am not sure about the slide rooms, but seems to make sense as well – just be careful w/ the silicone spray around gaskets.
2) – I have been treating the bottom gasket on the kitchen slide w/ some powder to help keep it from sticking to the underside of the floor and flipping inwards while retracting – seems to have helped so far. I normally only do this before retracting the slide and not every time, just occasionally.

The joint sealant needs to be verified at least every 4 months IMO. You must be on this all the time. For if you are lax it will cost you big dollars should you get a serious leak.
Depends on the water where you are verify the anode in the hot water tank every 6 months.
Tire pressure as often as you can.
Torque the wheel bolts.

Scott, I'm pretty sure Wayne is talking about the roof sealant at the caps and all the items mounted on the roof (vents, a/c, antenna) Look for cracks and voids and reseal if necessary.

For those that use powder on the seals, what product do you use? I've heard of using Baby-Powder. Yes, I agree this is a great thread to compile a set of PM's.

Service center recommends Pledge furniture polish for all seals.

I just used some Gold Bond, but just on the bottom seal. I haven't done anything on the side or top seals yet.. Have to wait and see what everyone uses and what type of success they getting with it.

I have been using Pledge on my seals at the recommendation of the factory, so far been happy with the results.

Here is a list of maintenance I perform full-timing. This list of items and intervals have worked good for us. Generally speaking we have had very few problems with our rig.
- greese all zerk fittings on pin, shackles, center point suspension. (Annual)
- wheel bearing pack (annual)
- check roof and all caulk areas (monthly or before and after long travel)
- lube all rubber seals (2 times annually). I use a slideout rubber seal with UV protection. I also use the on the Trail Air air bladder.
- check tire inflation prior to travel
- check wheel lugs (2 times annually)
- lube dump valve levers (2-3 times annually)
- drain/flush water heater and check anode rod (annually)
- check battery fluid level (annually)
- wax rig (2 times annually)
- wax front door catch about once a month
- check hydraulic fluid (annually)
- spray lube hydraulic jacks
- visual check of tires and suspension prior to road trip. I also perform a walk around check prior to pulling out and do a visual tire and hitch check during fuel stops.
- check and clean out refrigerator vents and furnace vent
- spray lube slideout rods. Wipe off excess. (2 times annually)
- spray lube front door hinges and slam latches (about 2 times annually)
- defrost fridge (2 times annually)
- clean and spray bedroom slide rails and motors. (2 times a year or before we move after being in an area for 3 or more months)
- check spare tire mount prior to each big trip
- lube steps (annually)
- use plumbers grease on toilet seal about every 3 months
- clean AC return filters (2 times during summer months)
- change out water filter (annually minimum)

That's a good list Dean. That is about what I do as well.I. also heat scan wheels every stop even with the tire minders
