When our dealer did the fluid exchange it helped, but did not fully eliminate the popping.

Andy,

That is our same experience. It helped some but not completely. If I can find a source for the CAT fluid while in Florida this winter, I will try adding another quart.

I too, am finding that with colder weather, it stops popping and cracking. We just got started into the cold snap that's hitting the states, and not a peep from it tonight. The temp here is 37 degrees right now.

Ours definitely got better last year when the fluid was added by our dealer. I do notice it still pops when the temp changes drastically from night to day. I might have to add another quart to see if that quiets it down a bit.

Guy,

Next time we head out I am planning to do another fluid exchange to see if it helps.

I'm also going to purchase more pads to reduce the length of the jacks.

I have two sets of the Tri-Lynx Levelers and use all 20 most every time I park to keep the jacks as short as possible, try to put them all on the rear jacks unless the front gives me the "out of stroke" error.

OTR...is the footprint of your levelers greater than the footprint of the jack's pad print?

Yes, but not much. The pads are 8 inch square and you can see pad on all 4 sides when centered.

Thanks. I'm looking for a better alternative to my wood blocks, which weigh a ton and are challenging to move around freely.

It's a shame....when I bought this trailer I thought all the wooden blocks were gone forever. It was one of the things I really looked forward to. Now because of shaking, I'm back to using wooden blocks again. The only thing I've improved on is not needing a hand crank for the jacks.

Knock on wood

Ours has not done the popping ever since the oil was swapped out
(but we are not in ours nearly as much as others)

We'll see next month when we go out for our annual firewood extravaganza !

Todd and I are going to head over to our barn and pull out some of the horse stall mats. I hear they are great for this... We will cut them up and add rope-pulls on them. They are heavy, but should last nearly forever. I would think they would be great shock absorbers too. You can by a 4x6 stall mat at any farm store for about $40-$50 and cut out all the pads you need. I'll update when we get it done.

I added one quart of the Caterpillar Hydraulic Oil Additive ($25) and it reduced the occurrences of popping significantly.
Note: The label on the Caterpillar bottle states:
Removes "stick-slip" conditions from noisy hydraulic systems.

We used the Torco RFF Grade 15 fluid. We purchased from North End Cycle in Elkhart, IN It is used in the front forks of dirt bikes. The "RFF" stands for Racing Fork Fluid. So if you are near a motorcycle shop along your journeys you can pick it up there.

Maybe I missed it, but do you have to remove fluid before adding CAT fluid? Also do you have to hook up and retract the jacks before removing and adding oil?

Thanks Jim

Articman, you will have to remove as much as you add, also you will have to retract all jacks & slides(except bedroom) before getting a true full level. Adding fluid before retacting is going to overflow the reservoir & make a huge mess.

Also remember that the fluid with the additive needs to be mixed into the system. If you add it, putting the jacks back down and leaving them there won't accomplish much. Cycle the jacks up and down a few times and also the living room slides in and out a few times.
