MORryde can get you either Sailuns or Goodyear 17.5s and rims. Good Friends did the whole shooting match, IS, Disc Brakes, Goodyear 17.5s and rims from MORryde

It will most likely be 5 years before i upgrade to the I/S. I will put on about 3-5000 miles per year. So I will hopefully go through only one more set of tires, between now and then..

If it’s going to be that long, it’s your choice which way to go. I think if it were me, I’d go ahead and put the 17.5 Sailun combination on now and then your tire concerns are done. In 3 years there isn’t any need to replace them. The rolling diameter difference is negligible. I couldn’t tell any difference in the angle of coach when I went from G Goodyear’s to the H 17.5 Sailuns.
Make sure get the coach on a scale after putting the tires on, you won’t need to run 125 psi in them, look at the load chart and run psi accordingly.

Thanks for the information everyone. Looks like the 235/75/ 17.5 are the closest match for my 235/85/16 ohm tires. I hopefully can run them at 100-110 psi for a better ride. Do you happen to know about Performance trailer braking’s disc brake kit? Is it as good as morryde?

Dave, all of us that have gone to H rated (to my knowledge) have gone to 215/75 rather than the 235. The 215 is within a few tenths of an inch in diameter and has more than enough weight capacity (around 4800 lbs per tire).
I considered doing the 235 but it has a couple more plies than the 215 and looking at a load chart, I would only need it at about 90 lbs. the concern from some tire folks was that if inflated to 105-110, the 235 would ride like a brick.

Just something to think about ......

The bad ride was a concern of mine as well. Plus the 235 is way too much tire for the application. Tire size comparator said 9/10 inch smaller for the 215. The 235 was 1/10 inch shorter. I am about 1 inch nose high now. The 215 would put me about 1 1/2 inch nose high. Is that ok? Also, did you guys convert from a 235/85/16 or a 235/80/16? The 85 is a taller tire. How much air pressure do you normally run in your 215 tires? Thanks.

Dave - I run 115-120 but we’re fulltime and loaded heavy. And to answer your other question - yes, Performancetrailerbraking has good stuff.

Thanks. I am getting my coach back from the shop next week. Going to check total height, axle weight, and then decide which way to go on the tires. Might as well wait to do disc brakes when I do I/S. Save on labor. A little scared of 1 inch shorter tires, I need to get some better measurements first.

I don’t think you’ll notice any difference t the hitch or the way it sits. I know I didn’t.

As for the discs, that won’t change the IS labor as they are just transferred over to the new suspensions. The disc labor involved is running the brake lines and installing the controller and you’ve got that in any case no matter when you do it.

We already had the Performance Trailer Braking disc brakes installed on our coach when we went to Elkhart to get our IS installed and it was absolutely no problem. I wouldn't want to tow another mile without our disc brakes.

New tires

It is important to accurately measure the height of your rig when connected to your tow vehicle. Know that 13'6'' is the max allowable tow height without a special haul permit in NYS and I believe that this is in other states also. The easy way to measure your height is to simply measure from the roof (at the highest point) to the ground. Then measure from the roof to the highest point above the roof (AC, Satalite dish, etc) and then add the two figures. This preculdes the need for a long straight edge and a level.

Morryde will set your new IS at the correct ride height with box tube under your frame as a spacer. I am about 1" high in the nose with 6"+ of bed rail clearance. I am running a 215/75/17.5" tire .

XCMARK, Do you remember what size tire came OEM on your camper? Or can you check the tire placard on the camper. Mine came with ST 235/85/16 Westlakes, which are 31.7 inches in diameter. The Sailun 215/75/17.5 is 30.4.
235/75/17.5 is 31.6 inches. I am trying to decide if going with a tire that is 1.3 inches shorter will make me to nose high. Thanks.

remember that IF the tire is 1-1/2" shorter, you will only experience 1/2 of that.. the other 1/2 (3/4") is on top of the tire....

tire update

Just finished my first trip with the sailun 215/75/17.5 tires. The shorter tire had negligible effect on ride height. I could not even tell a difference. Ran them at 90 psi cold. At travel speeds they increased to approximately 110 psi. Very happy with this upgrade. Thanks to everyone for their advice.
