New Owner Questions

Hi everyone!

So we just purchased our RW38RE last week and have a few questions; at least for now and hoping you can answer them.

- When we get back home after a few days of camping, how do I drain any residual water out of the ice maker? It is a Norcold fridge.
-The leaf springs squeak like there is no tomorrow. I know it's very minor in nature, but is there any way to minimize it?

Thanks,
Jack

Welcome aboard !!
AA posted about the icemaker water line on the thread "New owners to the RW family.
As far as the spring squeak, there are several grease zerts on the leaf spring hangers. Might want to be sure they are all greased. Might have to pull the wheels to get at them.
Enjoy

Thanks. I thought the procedures that AA posted had to do with winterizing. I still have a lot to learn. Sorry about that!

No worries. His post was about winterizing, however, that would be how to disconnect the water line to drain it.

I wouldn't worry about draining the water line to the refrigerator unless you're winterizing.

I actually never thought about draining the ice maker for storage. I do drain the water filter and hot water tank, and fresh water tank just to prevent any stale water issues. I know its still in the pipes, but figure it can't hurt to drain those other things between uses.

My wife is concerned about the stale water/mildew issues if the water sits too long. I'm not too concerned, unless she wants me to drain it each time.
Thanks,
Jack

Just an FYI... if you drain the line to the ice maker it could take a week for it to become operational again. It takes forever for the water to fill the line and get to the freezer.

Wow, glad we don't have that problem. Ours starts making ice in a couple of hours after the line has been drained. However, I do "prime" it by opening the valve under the sink, removing the line from the selonoid valve and getting all the air out first.

Priming the line could be the answer. I'll try that next time myself.

I guess the Jack covers the stale water taste

Grandpa, Try turning the fridge on and off over a period of a few hours. For some reason when it restarts, it tries the ice maker again. I've been as lucky as having ice on the road from the initial startup day. Sometimes... but never over a day.
