Microwave/vent inside or out

I had my microwave replaced under the recall just after we purchased the rig. I noticed that it vents inside the rig. There is an outside vent but no air flow when we are using the vent fan.

Just curious if others have their vents inside or outside? Not sure how Redwood designed this.....clearly there is an exterior vent.

Thanks,

Ken

Ken,
Did you check the metal flap that is inside the regular plastic vent? There were some that had that trouble, including mine. The metal vent is part of the convection oven and if its not exactly aligned, it hits the opening in the wall for the Redwood vent. I had to trim mine a bit.

You will need to take the microwave down and turn the fan so it blows out the back. They all come from the factory with the fan blowing into the room the tech didnt change the fan direction.

There are two exterior tabs (on each side of exterior vent flap) that have to be turned to the open position. Look carefully into the exterior exhaust vent & you'll see it. Probably locked in the closed position.

I would not be taking the microwave down unless I was sure it was not vented properly. As many have said on this thread, you should be able to see the vent from the outside looking in to the exterior vent. Some have had issues with the metal flap hitting the wood and not allowing it to open all the way. That would be my first look.

Thanks folks,
I'll check the metal flap first, however I think Andrew might be right. I was there when they did the install and can't remember if he flipped the fan. Yes, I checked the 2 plastic clips, that's when I discovered that it wasn't venting....

Just wanted to check to see if was supposed to vent out.

Thanks again,
Ken

If the flap on the Mirco does open because of hitting the RW side wall, you will get some air coming back into the unit. We have had that issue with both our 2012 RL and this 2016 MB.

Wow - if it's only 1 fan and it serves the convection oven and range hood, then a backwards fan reversing into the occupied space with combustion air from the gas range would not be good! let us know what you find out Ken!

I agree with Michelle, if the aluminum flap on the back won't open or only opens partially, it forces the exhaust air back into the coach. In my case I just reached in with gloves and yanked the aluminum one out. It is very thin and you have the outer cover anyway - problem solved and all works well.

yeeha! I just tried Tiara RV to get my vent the wind blew the flapper out of, and I got 8 pantry hinges. Nice system, nice lady, and I think that is a hats off to the owners group for setting that up!
