Measurement needed

Can someone help me with the measurement from the bottom of the King Pin plate to the ground when the trailer is sitting level. Preferably one with the Trail-Air pin box.

Thanks,
Ron

Mine is sitting in my shop so the concrete floor is level and it is at 45". Keep in mind this number will change based on the slope of the ground.

I just want to make sure I understand... With your trailer level in your garage (not raised in the front like to hook it up) From the bottom of the pin box plate (where it sits on the fifth wheel plate in your truck) that measurement is 45" from the ground... Correct?

That is correct.

Thanks Dave,

Do you have the air pin box or the non air?

If it's the air pin are you measuring from the nose of the pin box to the ground? The reason I ask is they slope down in the front when they are not hooked up.

Thanks,
Ron

I have the Trailair pinbox which has the air bag. I'm measuring from the side near the middle grease zerk, which is about even with the kingpin.

Can I ask why you need this measurement? For me I feel this can change 1, 2,or 3" with the ground and the unit showing level.

Wayne,

I have a custom lowered truck and we are picking up our new trailer Friday and I wanted to set the fifth wheel hitch height in the ball park before we went to pick it up. The dealer moved the pin box to it's lowest setting but when I called to ask for the measurement I was told 50" which didn't seam possible so I wanted to verify.

Thanks Ron. I was just trying to understand why you needed that measurement.

Ron ,

that statement is true for MOST dealers... Most of those employees are just sales folks, not product specialists . .

If you get lucky ( Like I did ) you will find a dealer that has knowledgeable folks trained in all the right places.

Good Luck with your NEW TO YOU Redwood ! ! !

Joe

Ron, I question whether or not you will be able to make that connection to your truck's hitch and be level going down the road. I say that because I pull my 31SL with a 2011 Ford F350 SRW Long bed and I have the hitch in the truck adjusted to its highest level and I was told by Lippert that I could not lower the hitchpin on the fifth wheel because it would result in 2 less bolts and it would not be safe. My truck has 17" tires and seems to sit lower than most trucks which makes me wonder how yours will work. I do not have the airbag pin so I'm not sure if the airbag pin will make up the difference. I also have Firestone airbags on the truck and those help re-level everything once hooked up. Good luck and let us know how everything worked out.

Don't forget that with the trail aire and flex air the front of the trailer will drop 2 to5 inches when the air bag compresses with the weight off the Jack's depending on how much air is in the bag

And don't forget the height will vary with the loading in the trailer. Add 2000 lbs of personal belongings and water and the trailer will sit lower.

Guys, thanks for the added information. This morning I went back to the dealer and measured it myself. With the pin box lowered to it's lowest setting and the trailer level, it's 43" and my highest setting with the Reese Titan 20K hitch I have 48" to the ground so I have enough adjustability with the air bags, hitch and trailer to get it level.

I will add a picture this weekend after we pick it up.

Still concerned about "pinbox lowered to its lowest level". Mine, from the factory appeared to have possible lower settings, but when I called Lippert to see if I could lower it they said not unless I would still be using the same number of bolts. I cannot lower it without deleting bolts. If it was the dealer that lowered it I would question the safety of it.

I believe mine has 5 bolts on each side. If I drop it I would be at 4 bolts per side and Lippert said that would not work.

It sounds like you may still have enough wiggle room even if you put the pin back to factory setting and keep your hitch at its highest setting. Good luck, can't wait to see pics!!

I appreciate the concern but we have all factory bolts on each side installed, I would never take that kind of chance when it comes to safety.
