Maxxair Vent Cover Anyone?

We are thinking of adding vent cover(s) to cover our fantastic fans. We thought we would start with just one over the bathroom fan so it can be used in rain (critical in Washington State!!!) Has anyone installed these and have an opinion? I am worried about restricting the airflow too much and the light that comes through. I know that is unavoidable to a certain extent, but the smoke colored clear one seems to be the best option. We are thinking of getting this one:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002OW5J44/...=I9C7YUW29EROR

Any opinions? A non-vented bathroom on a humid, rainy day is a NO GO!

That would be a nice add, and I believe they fit over our motorized ones no-problem. Just know that the smoked color will cut down some of the light, if that is a concern.

We've had them installed over both vents... They worked great on my last trailer! When we pick up our RW in two weeks, I'll let you know how we like them in a RW.

AA I agree on the light thing. The clear smoke is much better than just flat black. That would be zero light! I think I will have to sacrifice some light for some AIR! RV living does have it's ISSUES for sure :-) While the rain sensor is great, it stays WET long after the rain has stopped, and in this part of the country can add up to a lot of CLOSED time on the vent. It's so important to get the humidity and "stuff" OUT of the RV ASAP. Most days we never turn off the bathroom fan to get shower moisture out. That is also true for cooking USE THAT VENT HOOD and get odors and steam OUT or they will be on every surface in your coach. It will give it that not-so-nice "lived in" smell ;-)

I installed them over all three, hall, bath & kitchen. I especially wanted one in the bath. I used the white as we like the extra light.

Ken

I did the same too. I didn't trust the rain sensors and this way I can leave the vents open while I'm storing my trailer as well as going down the road.

Dave, how many beer project are those? Do they require sealing? I see Prime can have them at my door before I leave Wednesday!!

I see Maxxair actually recommends the FanMate for the powered Maxxfan, but no smoke color.

Interesting! I have concerns about the vent lid not being able to open fully, and how does that work with the motor? I will check out the FanMate... But I don't think I want white anything on top of my coach.

Look AA!! http://www.amazon.com/Maxxair-009450...ywords=Fanmate
However, lots of comments of the cover not allowing the cover to open fully and straining the fans cover motor!! NO THANKS!

We got all three done with the LARGE black covers, had to - the wife takes such long showers it would rain in the hallway if no vent

BUT (at least on our 38gk) the tv antenna is right next to the center hall fan.

While they could install it the cover easily enough and it worked well,
first time we rotated the crank up tv antenna, it hit the large vent covers overhang... so had to downsize a bit to a smaller cover.

When the powered ones meet enough resistance going up, they automatically stopped for us (on both the RW and our previous 5er)
so you should be good there !

Ya, but I also read that for the other cover. I'm wondering if it has trouble with the Fantastik fan only?? All those folks seemed to be using Fantastik fan.

Two strikes against the fan-mate - solid black (no light) and almost $100!

I hear you on the "black" Todd, check my replacement antenna I put on

So John, you are saying your vent lids DO hit the fan mate?

Did our first trip to the Oregon Coast and quickly realised covers were essential. We went with Maxxair II covers on both vents. Could only get black or white, so went with black to match the A/C's. They work great.

I just checked mine and they do hit the covers. There is about 1/2 in of travel to go. Not sure if this is an issue?

We have the large covers on all three maxxi fans. They are made for the MAXXI fans and do not harm the motor when they top out. So far three years no problem. Plus as a little assurance, we had them on two motorhomes with fantastic fans. One coach six years and the other thirteen and no problems with the topping out of the cover. Cross my fingers and hope to have a jack soon.
My only issue would be the height of the front one. I have checked with a long construction level and it seems to be at the same elevation as the front air. Also if you tow high and above level you would probably be pushing your luck with the thirteen foot bridge territory.

Which ones do you have Ken? The fan mate or the II?

Mine were installed by the dealer when I bought the coach. NO .... it does not hit when fully open. I got the max vent covers but not the fancy ones. I think mine were around $50 each.

My 'unscientific observation' ?

yes, they stop right AT the vent or hit the vent, really haven't paid much attention to it because we had even smaller covers on the last rv without issue...

Ours ARE Maxair and thought they were designed for the vents on our rw...

We have Max air II covers on all of our vents with no problems. We won't pull a rig off the dealers lot when we buy with out them being installed. They also give you added protection from HAIL as they are tougher than the vent lids.
