leveling

should the slides go out first before leveling or level first?

We opened up this past weekend for our third year. Leveled with slides in and when they where out then manually tweaked. Ours always goes out of level when the slides are extended usually high in the front. Initial leveling can a bit stressful.

It isn't critical either way IMHO

If you have a residential fridge, level just needs to be to the point of not 'bothering' you with the angle when sleeping (or doors opening on their own )

With an rv absorption type fridge there's a need to be a little more level so the gases flow in the fridge, but still doesn't have to be PERFECT for it to work...

So doing one or the other first really doesn't matter to me except that it's usually the first thing I do when hooking up and it's leveling before the wife is inside doing her thing !

wouldn't want her to get seasick from the swaying !

The only reason I would level before the slides, is I can control the slides, but I can't control the leveling. If I'm a little too close to trees or pedestals or rocks or anything else they like to put on the campsites, I would be afraid of hitting them with the extended slides. Minor concern, but the only reason I can think of to do one before the other.

I always level first. My thoughts are it is easier on the slides since they don't bounce any than. I will tweek the leveling with the slide out but will have them in for any major movement.

FWIW, when staying in one place for a while (i.e. Several months) we find the need to "relevel" the rig. This is partially to actually relevel and partially to reset the jacks so they stop popping. When I do this I leave the slides out.

I level with slides in and then open up. Will check level if longer than 3 weeks, then adjust.

I agree with Dan. Less stress on the operation of the slides if leveled first. I do have a question though.......When you are set up and you feel the need to re-level do you have to do it manually or can you simply hit auto-level again?

I always re-level mine manually. It usually doesn't take much, but after time the pads settle at least slightly and I just have to tighten them up. I don't know if a person should use the auto level or not.

If I remember right, the nose has to be above level a bit to autolevel. I tried to just push autolevel once while camping and it couldn't figure a baseline. I had to retract the rear and raise them front a bit, then it worked fine.

Adam is right. Tweak the second time or your coach will go through the whole process again. With slides out in our case it wasn't pretty.

If you happen to store coolers or stacks of water bottles under the frame, be careful re-leveling with autolevel....

And Brad ...... Just how would you know that little tidbit of information ?
Probably just the same way I'm familiar with what Jay said about slides out and hitting the auto level ....... You only do that once

That sounds like a funny story. Voice of experience maybe?

Thanks Y'all, you gave me some good things to remember or think about before I auto-level or manually level, in fact, you probably prevented me from being the entertainment at a campground one day. You have to admit, we do some pretty funny stuff....................once!!

Ya it was last Mothers Day in fact - discussing autolevel with my Brother in law and thought it wouldn't hurt to show him how it worked - the front frame squished a couple of coolers and blew apart some water bottles beforeI could figure out how to stop it.
