Level Up weight limit?

Hi all,

I'm new to Redwood and to hydraulic jacks, so please excuse a newbie question...

When I level my unit, it levels okay front-back and side-to-side, but there is a lot of bouncing and swaying inside whenever anyone moves - more so than in my old 5th wheel with its manual/mechanical leveling system.

The question is, how much weight can my level up system take? Is it safe to use the stabilizers/jacks to lift my rig enough to stop the movement or would that cause problems of any kind?

The Lippert documentation says you shouldn't lift the unit to change a tire or work underneath, so I'm unsure and don't want to damage anything...

Thanks,
David

I lift mine enough to put some weight on the jacks and take it off the suspension. This takes most of the bounce and sway out of it. I just received a Bal leveler that I am going to put on just behind the rear hitch to stabilize it a little more. Someone else on the forum put one on and he said it really helped. You can also put a tripod under the hitch, but I don't want to have to mess with that since you have to find someplace to carry it etc. Will try the jacks. As far as lifting the trailer with the jacks, I understand it use to say you could, but they changed it. (probably lawyer intervention). I have used them to lift one side enough to change tires several times with no problem.

Thanks for the quick feedback, rcflame!
I used to have a tripod with my other older unit, but didn't think I needed it for the Redwood. I'm on my way out to lift us a bit and will look into the Bal Leveller too.

Hey, no worries, I'm with you --- but, I am very curious about this "ball leveler" ?? Last I checked--

Kinda like a left handed hammer.

Uh oh, I used my jacks to get all 4 tires balanced

I think even with all six down and the wheels off the ground you might get some wiggle in the back.

The total combined rating of all 6 hydraulic jacks is in the range of 44,000 to 46,000 lbs, so, there is no issue with sufficient rating. We were given this information at the 2012 Redwood rally although I don't remember the exact number, that is the correct range.

As far as movement is concerned, I have noticed some but haven't let it bother me too much. But, some of the folks on the forum have been concerned with it and have added the BAL 24830 24" Deluxe Telescopic Stabilizing Jack with reported good results.

I haven't gotten around to a permanent solution yet,
just did a simple side crank boat trailer jack for now and mount it under the rear hitch to tighten it up...
(flipped the 'lip' on the jack over so it's a wider flange to catch the hitch...)

Yep, my dealer lifted the entire coach with the jacks when they were dealing with the wheel grease. Had all 4 tires off as well.

Thinking I might use it when/if I have all 4 tires balanced as well.
