Legal or Stupid?

Is this even legal? Not a real good picture, but there were 2 of these today in the park we're at, 42-45' motorhomes both towing Jeep Liberty's with a trailered atv behind the Jeep, they looked 100' long .20160826_102109.jpg

I might be wrong, but don't think so. I don't think you can double tow when both are "bumper pull". I sure wouldn't want to try and I'm getting ready to tow a Mini (which will be set up like it was behind a MH, like George and Lisa's Jeep).

Most states do allow triple tow, but would need to check each states length limit. Calif. has a 65' max, so towing behind our RWs is out of the question. Mississippi has a 99' limit. States that prohibit triple tow are all Atlantic Coast states except Maryland, Oregon & Washington. I could not tell from the info I pulled up how recent this information was. Best to check each states regs.

I didn't think double bumper pulls were legal anywhere.
Couple years ago saw a tv with about a 32-35' TT towing a trailer with 4 four wheelers, can't find that picture, but got to wonder what these folks are thinking.

I think a few states require one hitch to be a 5th wheel, but of those that allow triple tow not many. I think Colorado would allow that configuration with double ball tow. My grandfather pulled a Larson boat behind a Wilderness TT with a Bronco for decades. I still see it here today, but not too often.

I learned a new term when you can't meet the length legal maximum: STACKER!

A pumper pull is defined as a ball hitch. A tow bar isn't a ball type of hitch. They may be over in length but in most states the length isn't enforced.

How many people does it take to lift the boat off? Or just go really deep at the boat ramp?

In all seriousness, that is probably the best reason I have ever seen to get a motorhome.

Scott,
On that particular stacker, once the truck was removed from below, the boat platform lowers electrically so that when down it can be launched like a standard boat trailer using the truck. If you look under the boat it has the rollers for launch.

Nothing illegal about it in CO. Common as mud. 70' limit - up to 4 vehicles, brakes on all over 3,000. We have jet skis behind boats, ATVs behind pop up campers, pop up campers behind boats.

I'm not interested in pulling something behind the truck but I have thought about a 24 ft enclosed stacker. The problem is that there are a lot of camp grounds where they'd charge extra for the trailer, if it would fit at all.

I have seen some very unsafe combinations going down the road both with motor homes and 5th wheels. I believe that's where the term "driver error" comes into play.

Dave
If you down grade to a 24 footer that wouldn't be an issue for that big trailer except for engine size axle size etc. Etc

Dave, what would you put above the truck in the stacker? I'm trying to figure out what those hold. I don't think a boat would fit.
