Ladders

I'd like to hear from some of you about your choice of ladder(s) primarily to clean and wax the Redwood and TV. We'll be spending the winter in Arizona and want to take our time with cleaning and waxing the outside. I'm not sure about how big, and what type of ladder will fit the bill.

Thanks,

Jim

I use a Little Giant imitation from Harbor Freight Tools, it adjust in height & also unfolds to an extension ladder & stores nicely under the toolbox in my truck. I can reach everything but the steep arch of the front cap, I have to get to it from the roof.
Little Giant - $300+, Harbor Freight - $110+/- on sale with coupon.

Chuck, I looked at that ladder also, but only rated at 225lbs & I'm 40+lbs beyond that & I don't heal as quickly as I used to.

I use a little giant knock off from Lowes (cheap) extends to 10' just enough to wax everything. Have mits on one end and a cut up a noodle and wrapped pieces around the top rung and supports, held on with quick ties. Fits snugly against the basement wall. To get to the roof I place it against the dining slide step side and go up by using the slideout as a step.

I use this one. It is rated at 225 and I am 75# over and have not had any issues. To wax the cap, I cut a noodle and slip it on the frame.

homeguy,

how/where do you store your 16' extension ladder, it's gotta be longer when collapsed then the basement is wide???

It is in 3 pieces. but, I do hang it on the back ladder along with a 4' step ladder. We bought a ladder/bike holder from camping world.

I bought a red one like this before the lil giant's came out - got it from camping world...

as far as reaching the top cap,
I 'kneel' the rw down and back the truck up to it...

(most times, I DO warn the wife before dropping the nose down )

Yea.....silly wives! They tend to get excited when you mess with the jacks without warning them. I learned the hard way NOT to re-hook the truck while the wife was in the shower.

It sure seemed like a time saver to me

Dave,

I started re-leveling our 36RL one time last winter..........only thing was I forgot to tell my wife and our little Bonita (Bonnie our Chihuahua). I didn't think I would ever live that one down!! WHAT WAS THAT...AN EARTHQUAKE....A TORNADO.....OR WHAT!!! Now, when I go out the door, the wife always asks what I doing and the dog follows me to make sure.

Guy

We put a bolt through one of our G614s so while at the campsite I put some pads under one side and used the jacks to raised the side off the ground so I could get the wheel off and put on the spare.

Same kind of screams and obscenities

Gee -zoots, you would think these gals never served on a submarine or something....

We have a 13' telescoping ladder that fits nicely in the front storage compartment where the generator is located (we do not have a generator).

I have the telescopic ladder also, mainly use it to lean against RW ladder to go up/down (don't trust the RW ladder) & can use handles at the top.
