King bed to a Queen size
We are delighted about becoming a Redwood owner. Having found a 2013 36FB about 500 miles from where we live, we have seen only pictures and will go next weekend to inspect and hopefully take delivery.
It has a king bed, and we've always had queen and would rather have the room space. I've heard mixed comments about the European Box. I'm able to do wood and metal work so my question is which option?
1. Are there Queen boxes floating around in the Redwood community available for exchange.
2. The benefit if the frame it great, do the work necessary to re-size the existing by reducing the frame and shortening the slats.
3. Dispose of the king box, deck the base with fabric covered plywood and enjoy the new memory foam mattress.
Suggestions....

Congrats. Hopefully your deal goes through. We currently have a queen sleep number in ours and wish we had the king. We just moved from a California king and the queen is small. We have the queen slide in slide so to get the king we need to change trailers. The queen does give you great space in the bedroom area

Changing/modifing the European Box Spring is out of the question in my book, as it would require some major work. I would remove it, narrow up the bottom of the plywood plateform and install a good mattress of your flavor. Our choice is a Sleep Number, on our 3rd unit with this mattress.

I tossed the euro do dad & decked it with 1/2" plywood sanded smoothly & added an IComfort mattress, we didn't like the euro frame anyway.

No doubt there would be a lot of work. Remove about 8" from both left and rt side, run the slats through the band saw, cutting, welding, grinding and painting. Can't imagine one could tell the difference under a 10" memory foam mattress.

In our '15 GK, we are changing out the stock Euro frame & mattress with a sleep number. CW has the queen on sale right now for $1050. Best I've seen to date.

We had the king and kept it - just swapped out the paper thin OEM mattress with a thick comfortable foam mattress to match the one at home...
Since we were only in there to sleep, bed space was more important than floor space to us

We have a King at home and the Queen in the RW... get an amazing sleep on the OEM... just me? Like the night tables for water, specs, etc that would be gone with a King.
We look forward to taking the RW out and sleeping in it.
Scottie can't get up... bed too high... legs too short in RW. Will "ask" for a boost at some point some nights but he has his person dog cave at the foot of the bed.

We enjoy the side tables that a queen allows and the extra room. I have seen some RW owners add a drawer at the end of the bed frame. The Euro Springs have worked for us however we donated the original RW queen mattress and purchased a high quality queen mattress.

We did the modification last year to the euro box spring, If you have a chop saw, mig welder, and table saw took about 2 hrs time and went from king to a queen serta pillow top mattress and DW likes the extra room around the bed. we cut the extra tubing equally from both sides of the center rail, and you have to cut extra length from the wood slats equally from both ends so you still have the hump in the middle of the slat.
