Insurance Question

Not sure if this is the right place for this kind of question but here goes:

Getting insurance is next on my list.

I've been working with an agent from Good Sam who has been very helpful. Offering a bundle pkg for both the truck and RV. Offer seems fair, agent seems to be knowledgeable.

Before we pull the trigger we thought of looking at other options:
USAA
Geico
others??

Are there any suggestions/recommendations out there?

Thank You,
Mike

We were recommended RV America insurance by our dealer. RV America Ins. company then did a comparison for me & recommended coverage by National Interstate Ins. Co. Received the same coverage as Good Sams for SUBSTANTIALLY less. 18004000186

Mike,
I have nearly 40 years in the insurance business. There is no simple way to answer your question. Coverage and loss settlement provisions vary significantly as RV insurance is not a standard contract.

Here is a quick example to try to illustrate my point: Many companies provide replacement cost on the RV for the first 5 years. After the 5th year, coverage can be quite different. Some companies coverage reverts to purchase price in year 6 and after. Others revert to ACV (actual cash value less depreciation) in year 6 and after......a HUGE difference in coverage....and thus usually a huge difference in price.

Bottom line, unless you want to read and understand the contracts, find a knowledgeable agent that can explain and SHOW you the differences. Most folks buy RV insurance based on price....a big mistake.

We have had very good luck with Prudential over the years for the RV's.
I am not familiar with what is mentioned above about the 5 year thing but will look into it.
On our last MH we had two windshield claims over about a 8 year period and they are not cheap. They found the closest reputable glass company and within a week they were replaced both times at my convenience with only a $100 deductible.
We now have Prudential on the 5er with complete coverage. The only coverage I didn't opt for this time was glass since we have no front windshield.
Prices are very good I think.

We're with Progressive, several times I've filled out the Good Sam insurance request and both times they came in almost triple our rate with Progressive. We have the 5 year Replacment Cost, and the Purchase price after that. The company we were with prior to the RW wouldn't cover the RW because it's purchase price was over their limit.

Ken (Brenko) helped me figure out the policy for Good Sam. It is high, but because our rig was already a year old it was hard to find a replacement coverage policy.

As Ken says, many different input factors. Both our Allstate and National General (Good Sam) policies go up almost 30% when I input the actual storage location vs our home address. It seems our storage area is in a high hail risk and flood area in the last few years, and no credit given on either policy for it being inside a garage.
