In all my years...

I've never had a stinky black tank. I've always, always used a formaldehyde based black tank treatment. For the very first time I decided to use one of the "Eco Friendly" tank treatments and only because Camping World, for the first time ever, was plumb out of the good stuff. All I can say is never, ever again. What a complete waste of $35.

I agree, stick with formaldehyde based treatment.

Smells like rotten corn. Can't wait to use up that bag.

Have to agree. I get it under the bathroom sink. I thought it was the air gap valve on the tank flush under there and put valves on it, but no change. What did change is I went to the Eco friendly bags a couple of years ago, and now that you mention it, that was probably a mistake.

Back to BLUE!

I put a hose shut off valve on my flush port in the convenience center & I don't get that smell under the sink anymore.

The eco bags are JUNK. I just started using this (below) on someone else's recommendation and so far I LOVE IT. You can read about it on the product page, it's supposedly stronger. I use the clear elbow to monitor my tank flushes and I can honestly say it started running clear sooner after the first use. So far no odor at all.

Well....at least the Valtera received good reviews. Don't know if I have the intestinal fortitude to give up on the dark blue stuff.

Our RW has not had the odor problem however I ran across on this site or another RV site where a retired chemist recommended using a cup of Calgon liquid water softener plus a cup of Gain laundry detergent. I do this for each of the waste tanks after each cleanout plus I also add a cup of the liquid formaldehyde based "blue" tank treatment then add about a gallon of water to each tank. The level sensors are working after two plus years and the odor at dumping is not fowl as before using this brew. I usually find the Calgon water softener at WalMart in the laundry detergent section however it is usually on the bottom shelf and sometimes to the rear or with the fabric softeners.
