At least with the RV type fridges, they like to be reasonably level for the refrigerant to circulate correctly. They don't have a compressor, so as I understand the ammonia type refrigerant relies on heat to start the process and gravity to continue to the flow. Down the highway doesn't count, because at that point the motion itself promotes the circulation.

I actually have no clue if the residential refrigerators are sensitive to that.

Dave's here - he pops in at times.

We have always used a small round bulls eye level. Placed on one of the frig shelves. If the bubble is more than half out of the ring you need to do something to level. Have never had a frig problem in over thirty plus years of camping in an rv.

Sorry I couldn't get to this earlier....I was riding an old steam locomotive

Yes I screwed up by raising the front of the coach as high in the air as I could while I worked on my generator and batteries. I had left it like this for about 5 days while the frig was on.

I took my rig to a repair shop who said that in all likelihood I had ruined the unit. He said as a last ditch effort to try removing the censor from the refrigerator fins and running like this for a few days. This didn't work.

Someone on this forum had suggested a long ride down A rough road with the unit off. I called the dealer that I was trading it to and advised him of the situation and headed to Ohio to trade her in. That ened up being a 6 hour drive. After we got there we slept in their parking lot and surprisingly the refrigerator worked like a new one. So I guess the unit was vapor locked and the unit has worked well since then.

I hope this helps someone

Brad,

I'm a novice at this. I got invited to a place in Illinois that got started in the 60s that has their own rail system and completely restored and operating steam trains. I'm here to help them with PR. It's been fun but now heading home in the MH to down load all the video and pictures.

One of nice things about my business are the people that I get to meet and help

Dave,
I rode this one last weekend in Georgetown, CO. It's a vertical piston with a drive shaft and gear drive on the wheels. Never saw one before, but man did my 7 year old grandson know about it and he delighted in telling me the full details! I hope he can work a restore crew someday - he is completely mesmerized with them.
