How Wide?

Ok I am a new member here and just ordered a 2016 31SL. I have searched the specs on Redwood website and did some searching here and can not find the width of the new RV. It shows length height etc.

How wide is our RW?

Since it's a 2016 , I am going to assume that it's 102" wide...

I question the 102" for 2016, unless it's been done very recently. We have a 2016 that was built in Feb and it's still the standard 96".

I was told mine was 102" and it was built in May... I never actually measured it , but can say that it is throwing me off when I look in the mirrors ! ! !

The extra 6 inches are for the component hanging off the side like the awnings.

A pretty easy way to tell: If you have the Dually (which you should for most RWs) the rear hips will be the same width as the RV, if you can't see down the sides with the standard towing mirrors then it a wide body, 100" to 102" depending on manufacturer. I may be possible RW went to a wide body along with the flat roof.

I thought I heard they made the change to 102" wide when they went to the flat roof line, not sure

I believe your right.... put a tape on my body last night , and it is right at 96" for the early 2016 version .. ..

I was assuming ( and agreeing with Dave ) that the extra 8" was made up for the awning and slide toppers ? .. I wonder what the early versions of RW's are measuring ?? I can honestly say that in all my years of camping , I have NEVER measured the width of my campers !!!

The reason I brought it up was while I was out shopping I noticed a Montana that is very obviously narrow. It looks strange going down the road. Skinny and tall.

I don't know, we're only talking about 6" at the most. Our Friend's Jayco they just traded was a Wide Body and we were in it a lot and I would have never known if I hadn't looked up the specs as those few inches are pretty hard to notice once inside.
Just makes it harder to see behind you without adding extra mirrors that extend past the OEM Towing mirrors on most TVs.

The federal DOT law says that a vehicle can be up to 102.36 inches wide excluding safety equipment such as mirrors. If I'm reading the law correctly if a RV manufacture builds a trailer 102 wide, then they somehow have to convince the DOT that the awnings are safety equipment since they stand out further from the sides of the trailer.

It's going to be interesting to see how this all plays out.

We need some of the folks with the circa 2012/2013 RW's to measure their body's . . I am curious now.. Not like it really matters though .. With mine coming in at 96" wide WITHOUT the awning and slide toppers included , what Dave said makes sense ...

I'm getting mine ready for a trip to NC.....I'll have to measure to see what mine is. I know I have the mirrors set at 112 so it probably 102 wide. Again though, my slide toppers and awning sits out further than the sides.

Just measured our 2012 36RL, made in March of 2012.

It's 96" wide outside. Add extra for awnings, range vent and dryer vent.

NOW that good to know! ! ! I wonder if the later 2016's are wider somehow ? Or IF ALL RW's are considered wide body at 96" ?

All I know, our Friends say they like the RW better as he can now see down the side in the mirrors of his Super Duty, which he couldn't with the Jayco, so the Jayco must have been at least a little wider, by how much no one knows for sure.
