Hot Water Tank

Hi All!
We just bought a water softener for our RW. Are wondering how we can get rid of the mineral deposits in our hot water tank, before using the water softener?

There is a tool that you attach to a hose to rinse out the tank (can be purchased at RV parts stores). You insert the tool in the anode rod hole location. Suggest you replace the anode rod at the same time that you plan on rinsing out the tank.

The one I have is a 12" long, plastic wand with a 45* bend at the tip; yellow in color, works great.

Dale, from my experience with our softener you will still get the desposits, but instead of being hard scaly they are soft slimy & much easier to rinse out. IMO the softener is a must have for us, our unit has the brown shower & brown quartz counter tops, money well spent.

Our experience has been in the desert southwest (AZ) the extremely hard water makes the use of a softener a must. Our dishwasher does a great job of cleaning dishes spotlessly as long as I keep the water soft. If I run it with hard water, the spots are horrendous. I also had scale buildup in the water heater, but using the wand took most of it away.

I never have had the need. The scales always seems to settle to the bottom.

I just pull the anode rod out and turn on the water. Most of the scale comes out, some settles in the bottom. I just back flush with a hose and get the balance of the scale out.

I have one of the Camco 11691 water heater tank flushers. Works well. I have seen a few youtube videos where they used white vinegar in their water heater tank and actually heated up to temp to help remove scale and sediment. I haven't needed to go to that extreme. Besides the shut off valve for the water hose, it also has a rubber type gasket at its base. When you push it in the water heater tank it helps seal it so you can get more water inside to help flush the sediment out. I also draw the hose from the back to the front to help move the sediment out the hole where the Anode goes. Amazing to see how much you can get out.
