HDMI Audio/Video splitter

Was helping my friend with his new Winnie Tour setup a portable satellite dish. The Winnie was set up with a HDMI 4x4 Matrix with IR Remote Control Extension panel. Really simple design with the ability to watch separate or the same device from any TV, as well as OTA on any TV independently. I googled some of the switches, and they are fairly inexpensive. So my thought was, why aren't they using these on TTs and 5ers? They can be had with strictly HDMI cable runs or using CAT6 cabling. Has anyone retro-fitted anything like this or thought about it?

That would be a cool feature, but in my experience it takes a pretty high end switch to maintain the resolution and refresh rate. May not matter in an RV, as I don't think the TVs are very high refresh rates anyway.

Interesting though - I got a chance to play with my dish OTA plugged into the Hopper in the Redwood. It scanned and incorporated 58 channels into the guide, and I have access to the OTA channels from any of the Joeys as well as the hopper independently. The OTA channels are gold bars in the guide. here is the cool part.........

The Hopper and Joeys let me rewind and record the OTA channels!!! I didn't realize it would do that. I'm sitting here watching the Danny Thomas show outside in a lawn chair "priceless"

The one in the Winnie looked to be the one on Amazon for just over $300.
I did not know the Hopper did that, will have to start working towards replacing my receivers at home and in the camper with them. My received does the OTA and picks up the guide, but that is about it. Danny Thomas, it has been many a year. I do like some of the OTA stations you don't get on Dish though.

That might be a pretty good switch then. Cat 6 may overcome the refresh rate anyway. I just don't know enough about that stuff anymore.

ah - but can you pause and run to the bathroom, rewind and watch the "hot" scene again, or even record and watch later?

Well Dave..........

I garden, I mow the lawn, I work on my shop in the barn at home, I do my own electrical work, I do my own plumbing, I do my own carpentry, but, as a retired electrical/electronics engineer, I get a big kick out of reading the folks comments about things technical. Sometimes I just have to do something that doesn't require any thinking!!

Right now I am especially enjoying our trip in our RW to Washington state. We are in Rawlins, Wyoming tonight.

Guy

Guy, I've spent a lot of time in that neck of the woods. I used to go to Saratoga quite a bit and across "Snow Range Pass". Beautiful country out there.

There is a lot of dry high country desert out here but there are also a lot of beautiful areas to see.

Hope I didn't offend you Guy if you live out there

I used to hang out by there quite a bit. My Grandpa ran the boat club at Seminole Reservoir and I would shag him supplies from Rawlins whenever I came out.

No not at all.........I was born and raised on an Indiana farm the youngest of nine, but, I was the only one that did not go into farming. I could not figure out how any of my brothers made a living on the farm so I went into engineering. I was fortunate enough when I was very young to travel the west with my parents. As a result, I have had a life long love of the country west of the Mississippi...........desert, mountains and everything in between. Last summer we spent a couple of weeks in Gunnison, CO. Would love to go back there again.

This trip, we are on our way to Fort Lewis, Washington to visit our youngest daughter and her family. My son-in-law is career Army and currently stationed at Fort Lewis.

We left Indiana on Monday and this is the 5th day of travel. We are now at Boardman, Oregon at Boardman Marina and RV Park for an overnight stay. Tomorrow we will be on our way to Olympic Campground in Olympia, Washington. On Monday, we will be moving to the military campground at American Lake across from Fort Lewis.
