Fresh Water Tank

I have a Redwood 39 MB and I have always traveled with an empty fresh water tank. I now have a need to carry my own water supply and I have several question:

1. Does the water tank have baffles? A partially filled 100 Gal. tank can throw a lot of weight around.

2. If there are no baffles have you carried a partially filled tank with out problems?

3. Do you routinely carry a full tank? Mine is behind the axles and a full tank will help take a little weight of off the truck rear axle.

Your comments will be appreciated. Thanks

No there are no baffles that I know of. We generally run with 1/3 to 1/2 a tank of fresh water for use while on the road with no probems.

I run with about the same amount 30-50 gallons. I have also traveled with it empty and have not even noticed any difference

I also keep about thirty gallons in the tank. I have traveled with it full with no problems before.

Twice we had about 3/4 tank full of water and twice we broke a suspension bolt and was going a little sideways down the highway! The last time was when we were 30 miles from Elkhart, IN where we were headed to get the Mor-Ryde IS put on!

We have run with the tank 3/4 to full since new. No issues in about 8000 miles.

Last summer I did not run with any water and just waited to get to the camp sites. Why should I have water on hand?

1. Bathroom on wheels
2. My water from home tastes a whole lot better.

This weekend is a good example. I was at a very primitive campsite. We did have 30 amps. Did not use their water and no sewer. I probably could have made it the three days with no connections at all.

If your limited on hitch weight water will add a significant about to your truck though. Not because of weight, but we haven't used our pump on this RW or our previous SOB, we have a small jug by the toilet for potty stops & bottled water in the frog.

Danny ~ with the RL, RE and probably your FB, adding a bunch of water to the fresh tank REALLY improves the handling if you get into bad weather and winds. Almost all the water weight in the tank goes onto the pin. Dave taught me this trick a few years ago and the one day we had to move in about a 30-40 mph crosswind. Rig never moved and steady as a rock with full tank.

It's not the weight or lack of, it's that in 8 years full-time we've only needed onboard water twice when the power went out.

I keep 20 to 40 gal on board as I travel for potty breaks. If I'm traveling and get in late, I don't need to connect the water or sewer pipe just for a quick over night. I like to give the system a work out ever now and then.
