What is better, does anyone have experience with disc brakes as opposed to conventional trailer brakes? As to maintenance and performance. We will order our RV soon and I need to research this issue before I order.

The disk are awesome. I would definately put them high on your list.

We are about 6000 lbs heavier than our last rig with drums, yet I,m in more control with this one.

We had conventional electric drum brakes on our Montana, then did the Mor/Ryde IS upgrade, including changing to Disc Brakes. The difference it truely night and day difference. Was a no brainer for us when ordering our RW that it would have disc brakes and upgraded tires.

Have those of you with disks brakes checked to see what type of bearing system you have? I discovered before we departed on our current trip that my Kodiak disk brakes came with the oil bath wheel bearing lubrication system.

Yes - kind of expensive. Requires the new brake assemblies, hyraulic lines, and the servo unit in the front compartment. I like my disk brakes, but I don't think I would spend the money to retrofit drum brakes, unless you really hate your drum brakes.

Send a message via Yahoo to RollsRoyce

I haven't had any problems with my drum brakes, but I haven't had any emergency stops either...I have drums on my Alfa Sun and had no trouble with them either.

If you convert from Drums to Disc you won't believe the difference. We had our Montana retrofitted with Disc by Mor/ryde and what a difference in stopping power over the drums and our Montana was a good 3000 Lbs lighter than our RW.

I don't know if the only disk brake brand that Redwood is installing is Kodiak. At the time (July 2011)that we ordered our 36RL, that was what they were installing for the disk brake option.

In our travels to Texas I feel that the Disk brakes that we ordered helped save our home (36FL) along with alittle bit of driving skill and alot of help from the good Lord above! After about 2300 mile trip from NH to TX. with in 30 miles of our distention top a small hill on the highway in traffic doing about 65 70mph to find a pickup truck STOPPED in the middle lane that I was in. Thought I was going to loose everything we owned. Disk Brakes are money well spent!!! Just my 2 cents.
