Co/gas detector

Well the past three nights around 4AM my CO/gas detector alarm has been going off. It is very loud and annoying. I do not have a leak or anything so does anyone have an idea what this could be. Does it have a battery like the smoke detectors have that might need replaced?
Any help is welcome.

I haven't pulled mine off to look Dave so can't tell you if there is a battery. I do know that the lifespan of most CO Detectors is about 3, maybe 4 years. I replace the ones in the house every 4 years and when I had the boat, we did it every 2 years because of false alerts.

How old is your coach ?

It operates off of your 12V in house system, no independent batteries of its own.

If you are SURE it's just false alarms, here is the manual that has some trouble shooting info based on the indicator lights.

When we first bought ours we used to boon dock camp at my daughters property. That stupid alarm kept going off and my wife refused to stay and went home. I went and paid about $110 from the RW dealer for a new one. In hindsight it was probably not bad. I finally figured it out that if your main batteries are low that alarm is the first thing that would let you know that your batteries were nearly dead. I bought a generator but upon cutting it off at night that stupid alarm would still wake us up in the morning after the batteries were weak from running the furnace fan all night

I notice in the manual it has leads for an optional backup battery. Wonder if a gel-cel battery would hold that through the night if boondocking.

Probably if I had good batteries it would have When I finally replaced the main batteries they must have been the original RW supplied battery (no name) and an Interstate battery. Since the RW was nearly three years old (Build date 92011) I decided to replace them.

I did notice on the back of the detector that it gives the date made and recommends replacement every five years.

I am not boondocking and am hooked up to shore power. So I must have a faulty one. Can I unhook it until I get a replacement?

I would still check your main batteries. By the way what is your unit #. Take your serial number and subtract 1400 and you will know the number of your unit off the line. They did not make a whole lot of units that year. Example 4VOFC3624CR001755 minus 1400 is Unit 355.

My batteries are 1 year old interstates
And I've been hooked up to shore power for a month. My batteries should be at full power. Don't they get trickle charged when I'm hooked up to shore power?

Your detector must be shot then. They sure love them at $100. Maybe you can find one cheaper. Just keep in mind you need the exact replacement to fill the hole in the Island wall. Check this one out at camping world and make sure it is the right one. It sure looks like it. Good price if it is the right one.

Interesting, was just reading a thread on the Montana Forum (still a member over there) of several members having Propane Detectors going off. Seems some last for a few years, others die in less that a year. I think I would just replace it and move on.

M&A, didn't you have a propane bottle in your last RW that was out of date quickly? So just because the RW is new doesn't mean the sensor is, may have falling off the shelf covered in dust & some tech said "here use this one it's only 5 years old!!"

Nope, not us, no issues with Propane Tanks. Actually on our 36RL I transferred our 40 Lb tanks from our Montana, but did order this 39MB with new 40 Lb tanks.

Our CO detector has gone off a few times in the middle of the night. It's on my to-do list for replacement. I did have it legitimately go off once from the use of an aerosol can of leather shoe protectant spray.

I turned off both of my propane tanks yesterday and sure enough around 3:00AM the alarm went off. Then again this morning at 8:00AM. So I disconnected it and will order a new one. You would think they would last longer than 3 years. We flew to the Moon, but we can make a CO detector last more then 3 years..Go Figure.

We came home 1 time and ours was going off. The dog was curled up in the bedroom to try and get away from the noise. It did it a couple of more times and we figured out that it must be bad. Had 1 from our s&b that plugged in and just installed it above the old one on the island. Pulled the fuse so it would quit going off.

It will definitely make you do something as it is an obnoxious sound.

It the S&B both CO and gas detection? Most residential style are just CO.
