Cabinet doors

Tried to find information through the search and found nothing. We want to fasten our cabinet doors before we travel. What is the best options. If there are two doors close together we can take long velcrow and wrap the handles but what about a single door? Does anyone have a suggestion on how to keep the doors closed?

We use one of those small nylon bungee cards with a ball on the end. We loop it through and handles and then around the ball. This keeps our wine safe.

We haven't latched any of our cabinet doors yet. Been at it almost 2 years and so far we haven't had any come open . Used child locks on our Carriage. The only thing we restrain are the shelves in the pantry for which we insert our board which I showed on another post.

Were concerned about the upper cabinets, they have handles to tie but the single ones don't. I like the child proof locks at Home Depot may look at these. Thanks

We have pulled our 2012 36RL for nearly 10,000 miles and haven't had any issues with doors opening; even over the rough Arkansas roads. I did add sliding door bolts to the pantry shelves although I had not really had a problem with the pantry drawers opening. I could see where the drawers were bumping up against the inside of the pantry door.

I used to always Velcro the doors and drawers shut on our Montana where an open door or drawer would be hidden until you opened the slide and ripped it off.

The 36RL doesn't really have any of those conditions so I don't really do anything, but other models may, like those with 2 pantries.

A friend with a brand spanking new Bighorn towed it to storage and a cupboard door in the kitchen wrap around swung open in transport. He couldn't see it and opened the slide and the solid oak door lived, but it pushed a 2-1/2 foot hole right through the side of his fiberglass wrapped Styrofoam slide wall!!! I felt horrible for him, as he just lowered the landing gear on top of the stop pins and jammed them in the tube.

that's a bad day right there!
Some feed back I have received from a couple of Redwood owners is the closet doors /washer dryer in the hall doors have latches way back by the hinges they need another out by the end of the door to hold them or they open during transport. FWIW

yes, we learned the hard way years ago, no slides move until a visual inspection is completed behind them!

last year my brother bought a new large fifth wheel and literally had just brought it home. I went over to see it and he had not even opened the slides yet. He started to push the button to do so and I cautioned him that he better go in and check behind the slides before he push the button. He scoffed and said there's nothing in there to move I said okay then. Upon engaging the slides there was a loud cracking sound, when we went inside the sink cover had bounced off of the sink and wedged itself behind the slide fascia. Needless to say the I told you so went unsaid.

The only cabinet problem we are having is with the large desk drawer below the main living area TV. It will no longer stay closed in transit and we don't know how to add or replace the restraints because they are not visible like for the drawers. We currently put wooden dowels in the two drawer handles on each side and the dowels are long enough to extend up in front of the desk drawer and they keep it from moving most of the time. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ours uses the same latches that the other drawers do. We have had the garbage can drawer latch break on the female end with the spring and had to replace it. Could this be the problem with yours. Ours seem to hold real tight.

There choice of latches seems to be a problem. They and I have replaced a few of ours. The problem is reinstalling the new ones. If you have no trouble working upside down your OK but if not it will be tough. There seems to be no great replacement version. Just have to keep hunting through the market place.

To get at the desk drawer latch on our 31sl I had to remove the fireplace. I ended up making some adjustments on the catch and lubed it and it has been working fine for the past 6 months.

Just don't overfill the desk drawer so the top comes up when closed. It's a PIA to open it if it is. You have to remove the drawers under it and find a tool to pull the top down. Take it from experience. Argh.

Yup I noticed my top riding high one day. Luck had it - I could still get the drawer opened. Another way to mess up the latch is to get lazy and not fully push the drawer firmly back in place so it catches properly. A soft/half push can trigger the catch to close improperly.

Yep, if the latch closes improperly and the next time you try and slam it closed, you'll be looking for a replacement latch. Don't bother asking how I know.

We have only moved 2 times so far and both times the small pantry door has come open and all the roller drawers were out. I need a stronger latch.
