Broken Basement Door Hinge

The hinge on my door side basement door just broke. It is a 47 inch door that opens from the bottom up. The hinge is 42 inches. The hinge is fastened to the door in three places. One of the tabs is broken and another is bending. Anyone know where I can get a replacement hinge? Looked on Lipperts store but don't see the correct one. I am away from my dealer but expect getting a new hinge through them and RW will be an ordeal and take a long time.

My basement door hinge broke and I use a 7/16 bolt grade 2 and drill a quarter inch hole in the center. Then I welded a 2" x 1" x .062 flat steel. Then I drill 2 holes two 1/4 holes 3/8" from center line. The hinge is 1.500 long. Val

Bruce, mine broke also & I was in a place where parts weren't available so I southern engineered some 1/2" aluminum strap to go over existing hinge plate & added 2 extra screws to each end, hope you can tell from the pics.0519150923.jpg

Danny, thanks for your reply. I will see if there is enough hinge left to clamp as you did. If I do I will try your fix and also try to get my dealer to order me a new hinge.

Bruce, you could rebuild/reinforce broken hinge with J-B Weld, file it down & reuse at least til you find replacements. If you find new let me know where please.

The 2015 come with a full length hinge similar to a piano hinge. You could check with redwood if it is available for purchase. You may have to get the whole door and then be stuck painting it.

Our mid year 2014 has the full length hinges on all the baggage doors, that was another selling point for me.

Broken hinge replacements

I know this is an older thread, but, I have some info to help others that may have a broken hinge.

We have a 2013 36 FB. The right side hinge broke where it attaches to the door of the front hatch (generator and batteries). The middle one has bent a little. This is a small piece with two parts, the peg that goes into the hinge and the metal plate that holds the peg.

I have been trying to work with Redwood (3-4 calls), an Arizona Redwood dealer, my dealer in Ohio (who asked for pictures and never responded) and Lippert. Only Lippert was of any value. The others demonstrated very little interest in assisting. In fact, Redwood finally told me I had to order the whole door, frame and all, for what turns out to be a $3.51 part.

Lippert took the bull by the horns and did the research necessary to get me the part numbers, prices and drawings to insure the correct part. I have attached those drawings for others. I ordered all three (Left, Right and Middle) just to have spares. These same components are used for other hatches as well.

Hope this helps.

Gary

Gary, thank you so much for that info. I had a hinge braek but Redwood repaired it at their service center when it was there for warranty work. They are cheap hinges but I would not want to buy the entire door or frame if another breaks. So, did you order it through Kinro?

I hear people complain about Lippert, but when I was having a problem with one of my adjustable brackets on my slide out arm, I'd heard that Lippert had come out with a new and better bracket with 2 holes instead of 1, so I called Lippert and the lady helped me figure out which bracket I needed. She sent me printouts with pictures and part numbers so I could order accordingly. Very helpful!

Rick,

I got the information from a rep at Lippert named Linda. She asked me for the rep's name at Redwood after I got such little help from them so she could call them herself. She called and got the correct info. I then ordered directly from Lippert. About $38.00 to 2 day air ship including the cost of the parts. After all of the run around I got I was so pleased to have her get it done for me.

Gary.

When the hinges broke on our Redwood, I got them from Tiara RV 574-266-2136 or check out their replacement parts website Trekwood RV Parts - The only place online to purchase Keystone RV Replacement Parts. I also got replacement fender skirts for the our Redwood.
