Black tank gate valve

I change out my black tank cable gate valve for a electric one. It took about an hour to make the change. I had to change two cable gate valves over the last 3 years and decided it was time for a change.20160120_111754_001.jpg

That looks good John , How hard was it to access ? You said it only took about an hour , that includes running the wires to it ? What was you total cost ?

It took about 30min to remove the old valve and install the new one. The wiring took about hour to run from the battery to the switch in the basement.

Man, this sounds just like what I need to do? I have to replace my black water valve and have ordered a new one to be installed this weekend. However, I am really debating on installing a electric one instead. Is there anyway that you can give me some wiring instructions? 12 volt to your batteries right? And the switch I am assuming you installed in your area where the cable handles, water supply, compartment?

I installed the switch in the water compartment. I ran power wire and ground wire from a 12v bus bar I have installed in the battery compartment a while back. My valve came with a 5 amp circuit breaker built in, I ran the wires thru the basement to the back side of the water compartment. You will need to remove part of the back wall in the basement to install the switch. It's been installed for over a year now and has work great.

My gray water valve for the shower's release handle slides in and out extremely easy. I believe that means the valve handle is broken or stretched or whatever at the gate valve. Is it easy to get to the valve and replace it by removing the water heater side through the basement wall or is there another way to get to it?

More than likely, you should go from the underbelly. I believe the holes for the drains in the floor are only slightly larger than the plumbing itself. By removing the underbelly you can get right to the tanks and gate valves.

I think that I understand but? The 12 volt bus bar that you are talking about is something that you installed, a positive and a negative bar that has a positive cable from your battery and a negative cable from the same battery therefore supplying power to the bus bar? Thanks for your help! I am getting ready to purchase and install the electric dump valve for my black tank!
