When we took delivery of our RW it came with one group 24 battery. Seems to run down quickly. I purchased a new group 27 and was gonna have dealer hook both up. Anyone see any problem using a group 24 along with group 27? Just wondering if i need to buy another 27. Wish I had made them put two group 27s in before taking delivery.

Thanks,

Neal

Personally, I'd ditch the GP 27 and get myself two, 6V golf cart batteries. IMHO, an RV should have deep cycle batteries.

You should have identical batteries or else your weaker one will still have problems. Draft horses are paired to match each others strength and size.

I agree, deep cycle batteries would be better. I wish they had enough room in the Redwoods for more batteries

Actually I don't use much of the batteries. I run the landing gear, leveling and slides while connected to either my house, whatever camp ground I'm in or my F450 which also has two batteries.

I really wanted 6v, but because they need a different batt box (too tall), I went lazy and got 2 27 series and put the 24 in the boat. I was having too hard a time with the fridge going into low voltage alarm with just the 24, so I needed a quick fix.

I don't see any problem in removing the top of the battery box.

Maybe fumes from batteries with bad cells trying to charge and overheating...I've seen this happen when batteries are in the open

You guys keep bringing up more work for me. Now I got to check the batteries. Install to a/c power outlets and move the shore power inlet up to the side. Mounting bracket supports, redwood should have done this from the beginning. I could use only 1 cable, btw it should roll up into the RV. Power surge protector should be standard on any RV.

I plug my big cord up at home down to 115v. It is on all the time I'm not traveling. The inverter always gives me a full battery reading when I check inside. The inverter also puts out enough to operate the landing gear and slides.

I could risk it I suppose, but lead acid batteries are supposed to be vented top and bottom and isolated from the rest of the electrical in that front compartment. Unlike a car that is more or less open under the hood, these enclosed compartments can build up hydrogen. Gel-cell may not be an issue, but I don't think they have gel-cel 6V.

6V gel cell batteries are available.

If you don't think you can fit two 6 volts in,and hook them in series
Then I recommend one 12 volt deep cycle gel cell. I have used both ways, and both have their advantages and disadvantages.
