Awning Lubricant

Does anyone use any kind of lubricant in the rails mounted to the external walls to make the Awnings open smoother? It kind of "skips" along the track when opening. Not quite sure how to word the issue so any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks.

No really a lot you can do, no where really to lubricate other than the pins that hold it to the rails. I use the same silicone spray on the landing legs as I do the shock extensions on the awning rails. Wipe them down occasionally, which seems to help. That is about the best you can do.

The 'skipping' MAY be from what's rolled up inside the awning...
tree sap or whatever will make it catch --- even if just moist when rolled up

try this,
get some tilex and a new 1 gal pump sprayer @ home depot...
dump the tilex in and fill with water,
extend the awning and spray it on both sides,
roll up for about 15 to 20 minutes,
open it and spray both sides down,
then let it dry...

Any possibility that the awning is angled improperly? Check to make sure that the awning angle adjustment pins are in the same hole on both sides.

Both of my awnings started to do the same thing this weekend. I sprayed the tracks that the rollers and guides go in as well as the bottom rollers with the same CRC powerlube with teflon recommended for the bedroom slide and it worked fine when I was done.

They kinda skip & groan, silicone spray helps for a while. JBT I think Tilex may be a little harsh IMHO, I use the same procedure, but use Simple Green & have had good results.

I would not be using tilex.....this contains chlorine and will result in the Delamination of your awning fabric. Been there, done that, and it wasn't pretty. Simple green or a mild dish soap solution is best. May have to give them a little scrub, but won't result in fabric deterioration.

Plus SG smells better than Tilex, IMHO.

Personally, I've never had any luck with Simple Green removing mildew stains; which will inevitably occur. A mild, and I repeat mild, solution of Tilex has always done the trick for me and I've never had a delamination problem. The trick is to cut the stuff with the appropriate amount of water.

Had a guy clean my previous SOB using a cleaner containing chlorine, said it's best thing on mold & mildew, about 2 weeks later all decals began curling up, coincidence I don't think so. IMHO!!

Acronyms...gotta love and hate them!!!!

We all use them and many times leave those who don't know them out in the dark. I always try to use a blend of full text and acronyms when I remember but we all forget so it's always good to try to remember when posting that we constantly have new members [newbees] on our Redwood [RW] forum, many who are now full timers [FT] who previously lived in a house [stick & bricks] and/or owned a some other brand [SOB] rig and we all tow with a truck [TV].

And until you learn to fly - you haven't begun to see acronyms ! The FAA and aviation in general thrives on them. LOL

I work for the federal government, and policy states that at least 10% of all communication must be in "whole" words, otherwise it would be a continuous acronym

So I'm curious, what do we actually call the television? TV is already taken!
