Antenna leaking!!??

Had a really heavy rain last night and water was pouring out the end of the antenna handle! Anybody had this happen? The antenna itself is down.

Not me, but with any luck its coming in from the antenna and out the handle rather than into the roof deck somewhere.

I would get up there pretty quick to see what the issue is, and bring some self leveling lap sealant and a caulking gun.

Check the cap for the antenna cable going in...
on mine they installed the vent cover too close and when the antenna was turned the rubber cover was pulled off leaving a 1/2" hole pointing UP !

2 years ago in my TT we had water coming in from the antenna handle. I put a ziplock bag over it and tucked it in the gear and emptied it as needed, figuring I'd get it fixed during the winter layup. I thought for sure it was the O ring around the handle or the swivel base why else would it come in through the handle. In the winter I gave it to the dealer and all they did was caulk where the base meets the roof and the leak stopped.

I can just about guarantee you that if you go up on the roof and look at the boot covering the cable going into the base you will see that the boot is not seated correctly. Have had this problem with 2 fifth wheels and my son had the problem with his TT. It's an easy fix. Caulked around the cable as it goes in to the base and then silicone the boot and placed it back where it should be. Once the silicone sets......no more leak!!!!

I agree.... this is an easy fix. Just replace the boot.

I never found the boot to be damaged, but for some reason it seems to work its way up the cable allowing water to get in below it. The silicone just keeps it glued down where it should be.

This might take a tool box, a few drinks and 6 of us on the roof ...... surly we can figure this little problem out.

I walked into my antenna while on the roof and bent it enough I had to replace it. If I start drinking on the roof I'll end up knocking everything off of there or step through the skylight or something

This could be an interesting challenge at the Rally.................see how many men we can get on the roof before it collapses! Who wants to volunteer their roof?

I went up on the roof of my travel trailer on an extension ladder that was probably three rungs too short. When I was done I couldn't get down. It was call the fire department and be embarrassed or trying get down and risk falling. I took the risk and didn't fall. But getting me back up on the roof will be a chore. Lol

I did that on my house roof one time. It was a much steeper roof than I thought. I took 4 or 5 steps up and then turned around and sat down. I sat there 4 feet from the ladder for almost 30 minutes before I could muster up enough nerve to scoot down the roof towards the ladder. There was a time I could get up there and just jump off to get down.........those were the days!

Funny how brave we seem to be when ascending, piece of cake climbing onto the roof.

Coming down...well not, thats a different story, I sometimes feel like screaming like a little girl when it's time to descend that same ladder I so fearlessly came up!!!

Go figure???

But Brad ~ if we position the rig close enough to one of those beautiful lakes you have out there .............. after enough adult beverages we can practice our Cannonball techniques from the roof LOL

really hope you can make it to the Rally or we make it out your way.... can't imagine how much fun/trouble you, me and Dave could get into ..... Our wives would probably disown us

Our 36RE was leaking around the antenna crank , tried all the previous things and finally found it was a cracked antenna base plate- replaced by dealer and all was back to normal. So you might want to check.

wonder if Redwood would consider making a houseboat? I'd be stylin on the lake instead of next to the lake and wouldn't care if I fell of the roof!

Rally is still on the plate, but man is work grinding hard.

Brad - Hope you make it out East for the Rally. We finally get home next week and will take another week to pack and resolve issues since we left and then we will be heading across country.

Work - naw, they wont even miss you. Two weeks after I retired they had forgot my name.
