Andersen Hitch

I am new to FW RVing and looking for opinions of the Andersen hitch used with a gooseneck hitch. I have a one ton GMC dually that has a frame mounted gooseneck ball. The Andersen hitch seems to be a good option but I haven't actually talked or otherwise communicated with anyone who has used this hitch. Your response will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome.

I use that hitch and it works great. Easy to install and remove. We have Short bed Dodge Dually. No issues with turning with the cut backs of the front corners of the FW. What I like best is not having to check to make sure the jaws of a traditional hitch are locked. You know this is locked and no chance of losing the FW.

You know that it is locked as long as you lock it.
I too have the Andersen and enjoy the ease of use. As it is an unconventional hitch, be prepared for an unconventional response from RW should you be so unfortunate to experience a structural or cosmetic failure that is blamed on your Andersen.

You sure it has to be locked?
Missed locking mine once, did not loose the RW. I would not recommend towing with it unlocked. Just so you all understand.

Yes, I'm quite sure. For all the reasons Shane outlined.

I confess I forgot to lock mine once but only made it to the end of the street before I remembered. Also in Canada it is considered a gooseneck mount and safety chains are required. I use them.

Does your RW have the MORryde kingpin? If yes, any issues hooking up to the Anderson hitch? Curious if it provides even yet additional pulling comfort.

John
Those little safety chains will not stop the trailer if it gets loose

I have a Trail Air RotoFlex from Lippert. I can't imagine it being much more comfortable. If it didn't give that push and pull motion once in while I am afraid I would forget it was there.

Shane, I agree. In fact I hope you are right. I'm not sure I wouldnt rather see it sail off away from me. But it's the law here, and a logical argument won't get you out of trouble with the law.

I could be wrong but if my memory is still a little bit there a few years ago I remember reading the warrantee on one particular manufacturer and if completely voided the structure part of the warrantee if a gooseneck was used to tow.

Steve I think you are right. During my research period I found mentions of manufacturers that said they would not cover warranty issues and then some that would, sometimes they said both yes and no. I don't recall what Redwoods position was. Andersen does supply a supplemental warranty that is insured to cover you should the manufacturer refuse coverage. Here is what was provided with my purchase.

I suppose this would be a good time to disclose my name is John Andersen but there is no connection. Just a coincidence.
