Air Conditioner shroud

This may seem like a stupid question but I wanted to check the caulking on my air conditioners and couldn't get the shroud off. I didn't want to force it. Is there a trick to it? I notice it is a 2 piece shroud so does it come off in 2 pieces or does it come off as 1 piece? I haven't been able to find any details on the manufacturer site other then "remove shroud"!

Remove the top 4 screws. Then carefully pry the halves apart at the seam. They are interlocked at the seam. The bases fits into slots so that the halves need to be separated to get them off.

There is a seal under the A/C unit not caulked. The fasteners that hold it down are caulked and you can see most of that with the shroud on.

You do not have to seperate shrouds to remove, carefully pull up either end & work back and forth. Bottom edge fits over a small lip.

This is how I removed mine as well. You are wise in wanting to inspect this area. I had a leak in my rear A/C unit. One of the lag bolts was run at a sharp angle, but did not tighten properly, nor was it caulked sufficiently.

I was hoping someone would tell me that the shroud could be removed without separating the halves. I started to try to separate when I first tried to inspect and thought I might look into it a little further. I have been in the rain with my Redwood and so far have only had a minor leak at the antenna. That has been corrected but thought with all the comments about the air units, I would double check their installation. Thanks
