AGM batteries

Did any one gowith AGM batteries, if so what size, how do you like them.

Lillyputz do you do alot of dry camping? If you do they are better, but if you do not don't waste your money.

I didn't go with them but I have a friend that owns a battry store. He told me that they're exspensive, don't need water added to them, can be mounted in any way including on their sides, don't need ventedand that they are great for off road because they put up with vibrations.

According to him they don't last longer! He said I'd be better off spending my money on golf cart battries. I did like the idea of not having to worry about the water and no venting though and because of no vapors they are cleaner.

I had my dealer install a second battery at delivery time. I also added a 50 watt solar panel to keep the batteries fully charged during storage. It also charges the batteries up fairly quickly during dry camping usage. Eventually I plan to add enough solar for off grid camping.

I plan on adding a solar systemafter delivery my self. we hadone on our current 5th wheel for seven years. one of the best things I did.

How many panels and what wattage are they, how fast will they charge up your batteries if you are dry camping?

Our current 5th wheel. we have 120 watt Kyocera panel, system with (4) 6 volt golf cart batts. most of our camping is dry camping. very seldem do we need to start a generator to help charge up the batts. as long as the sun shines. on our new unit, I plan on installing a 420 watt or 560 watt system with a inverter. of course we did order our new one with the gen option, in case it's needed. if your interested in solar. check out the web for wholesale solar 800-472-1142. they have put together some nice solar packages.

When I retire (in about 8 years) we plan on doing something like this and park as much as we can on gov. land. I have found some beautiful areas in the rockies that I'd love to camp. Thanks for the info

Does it hurt the batteries to leave them plugged into a 120 volt home circuit? They are maintenance free batteries.

Can you tell us where you ran the wires down from the roof and where you installed the charge controller and (extra?)batteries? A picture would be appreciated. I just bought a 31SL and have two 150 watt panels and charge controller from our old Alfa RV.Thanks.
